Modded a Parangatang a while back and thought I'd finally show off what I have so far.

Eventually going to do more to pimp these two out but that may be a while.

I really like the shorty. It has a great feel in the hand and the balance is nice for sure.

I know Murph likes it! lol :D

Hope the rest of you do too.

Oh, and I believe that I took off 4 1/4 inches if I remember correctly.

Enjoy!

nice work!
Murph was talking about that today while we were running around the county with Todd.
good to see you're still alive, too! :D

Thanks Vik!

And yea, I'm still kicking....lol

Working thru some life stuff but, everything seems to slowly be getting a little better for me.

good to hear!
you going to be able to make it out East in a month?

Man, I am trying my best to be able to make it. It looked like there was no way possible but now I just might be able manage a quick trip up there.
I will know more in a couple of weeks.

You need a set of my scales on that :D

Haha. You are right man! And a set would look great on them.

But I am actually not a fan of what Ka-Bar did to Steve's handles so my next step is gonna be strip the blades and make some redesigned scales for them.

I think I have a way to make them a lot more comfortable. Probably similar to how yours feel, but even more reshaped.
I may get rid of some of the finger guard.

How do yours feel compared to the stock ones? Do you feel like the stock scales are just wrong in so many ways like I do?

I have a Boudin order. Hint, hint.

Excellent work brother, that shorty looks sweet!!

And glad to hear things are getting better as well.

I know you wasnt asking me... But.... His are 100 times better. I love the blade's shape... But the handle scales were just ruining it. His are much more comfortable. I had to get some of his scales when i had the potbelly too... Im just not a fan of the plastic scales with the "stippling" bumps or whatever they are suppose to be.

Nice job Dex! That shorty looks sweet! Bet it feels great swingin. Yes, please continue to update, I'll be following this. I can't yet justify picking one up yet as. I have plenty of machetes and although its on the list, there's others above it. I'm curious if you have plans for the scrap, a mini cleaver would be cool!

It's good to verify that I'm not completely crazy sometimes. It turned out great!

That does look great Dex! A little shorter and you'd have a cleaver...which is not an altogether bad idea.

Dex - What's the blade length on the shorty? I usuall prefer something between 12 and 16 inches for machete work. Ive got a few but my modified Martindale No.23w gets the most use. it was cut down to 16" and shaped like their Golok.

Cool mod Dex; I actually kinda like the looks of the shorty better. Please keep us updated on your handle mods. I've been toying with picking one up myself but the handle shape looks weird to me. Looking forward to seeing how you improve on it. Great work!

Super cool Dex. Love the shorty. TBH I think it looks like it would chop better than the original. Dunno why, just do.

The handle shape has been carried on through the ZK range as well. To me they're comfortable enough but I can defs see how others wouldn't like it. A set of Tommys though would just make it spectacular..

Don't have a Parang but I'm really diggin' the shape though. I think if I was going to get one (or something similar) I'd go the Swabbie. BUT, I'd be making it look more like a parang..

I'll be modding one for a shorty soon, perhaps if someone were to bring an extra one to the Gathering.....

I also just got my kydex sheath for my standard version from 710. Damn it's a whole new experience carrying it now.

Indeed, sweet setup brother.

How you prefer carrying it? So far i like wearing it with both belt clips clipped to the top ring. Seems to balance better for me. Cross draw, sheath kind of swings freely. easy on and off. Feels like a short sword in this setup.
