Project Question

I received a Project I in trade this morning (thansk Colin & Mat) and I cant find a difference in the upper & lower guards?

Is there not supposed to be a night index mark so you can tell which way the edge is facing?

It does not have a birth certificate but the CRK box is for a Project I and it has a 17 year (2001) anniversery sticker on it.

All help is greatly appreciated.
 
Its not the guards themselves but a flat just behind the guard and before the radius that flows in to the start of the checkering. For rightys if you can feel the flat the edge is down, reverse for the left handed.
