Was this movie worth watching? I caught bits and pieces of it at work but I really didn't watch it and I'm just wondering if I should pick it up. I guess what I'm really asking is, was it better than Alien Resurection?

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. As a prequel to Aliens it answered many questions and had my attention throughout the whole film. It was well done and worth watching.

Muchly discussed on the various sci-fi forums. Deeply flawed. Things happened that didn't make sense, for which no reason was given, and which were left dangling. The whole geared to leading us into a sequel.

But... I found a couple of articles on the web that indicated the problems were just typical Hollywood shenanigans. Evidently, the first screenwriter, and the first complete script, cleared all those things up. Everything was explained and ends tied up neatly.
But he was sacked.
The new guy had a "different artistic vision", and made changes. Not for the better, by most accounts.

Still, entertaining, and it looked good too.. Hopefully the sequel will take the opportunity to clear things up.

I enjoyed the special effects, I liked the story, but it could have been done better. Set up for a sequel, plain and simple. I think they should have just stayed in the realm of Alien/Aliens, it would have been easier.

I would rent it, I am not sure about buying it. Better than Alien 4? Aliens vs Predator was better than Alien 4!

If you don't get too caught up in the details (like Star Wars geeks yelling "fake!" when they saw the new and improved CGI version of Jaba the Hut), like Mr. Werner said, its entertaining. I took my 15y old son to the midnight opener of Promethius, which was quiet memorable, and I liked the movie. But its not for younger kids, thats for sure.

As a fan of the Alien movies, I was really looking forward to prometheus. The first time I watched it I felt the same as most people, lost and a little confused. But after doing some research, I found most of the answers to my questions and indeed it does seem set up for a sequel (maybe they would have been better suited to call it part 1)

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and I look forward to the next chapter where, hopefully, everything comes full circle.

Completely sums up my thoughts on the movie, don't watch the clip if you don't want spoilers, though.

I saw it in the movies with mrs. Polecat and we both liked it. Do not compare it to the old Aliens series though, as they are entirely different. If you view Prometheus as a movie by itself, then you will not be disappointed.

It's Attack of the Stupid People with special Plot Holes you could fly a spaceship through. That's my $0.02.

No kidding^^^

This movie was such a waste. It's visually beautiful (effects are AMAZING) and there's way too many good actors throughout the movie, even in minor roles. This trainwreck just couldn't pull it's head out of its own *** for a few minutes to tell a good story.

I made the mistake of expecting an "aliens" movie. I can see why the didn't call it "aliens 5" and tried to make it into a new thing. It's almost completely unrelated.

I'm gonna shut up about it now cuz I'm gonna start spewing spoilers. As much as I hated this movie, I always recommend that anybody who likes science fiction should watch it at least for the experience :)

I really enjoyed it. In fact I was just thinking about watching it again some 10 minutes ago and now I for sure will.

If you're expecting another Aliens movie with Ripley, you'll probably be very disappointed. Prometheus is a prequel to the Aliens series. It's about the original spaceship and the star jockey pilot themes which were unanswered questions in the original Alien movie.

Yes, even the great Ridley Scott can stumble a little bit. Great looking movie and done old school with more sets and less CGI than many movies today. That is why it "only" cost $125 million or so to make instead of $250 million like John Carter. ( a movie that did not suck anywhere near as much as people would have you believe) There were holes and Scott almost got a little bit Cameronesque at times. But think about this. How many sci fi movies made by ANYONE can match up to Scotts early work, Balde Runner and Alien? Alien is considered to be not only one of the best sci fi movies ever made, but also one of the best horror movies. Ditto with Blade Runner as a combination of sci fi and film noir crime drama. This time around, I think Scott asking went a bit simplistic. But one thing that you can say. It wasn't a Cameron film. While Aliens may have been fun to watch, the script was a ham fisted POS compared to the original. But then again, that is Cameron. Like George Lucas, he makes beutiful films that you MUST see.......once. When it comes rto writing, bwell lets just say that Cameron's best script is still Terminator where his main charactr only has 4 lines.
As for remarks about the actors, I really like this Noomi Rapace girl and Fassbender's David character was excellent!!! The hit the Peter O'Toole thing on the head and mixed it up with some HAL 9000.

Much better than Alien Resurection, AVP and AVPR, IMO. I found those to be more campy than the original trilogy.

The David character was well done and the Weyland Corp. plays a larger role than in the Alien movies.

After you watch the movie, do a search on what David says to the Engineer and the ending will make more sense.
