strop/stropping rhymes with drop/dropping. Not sure on Al Mar, but I would imagine it sounds like it is spelled.

Ahh see I was thinking stropping isn't like Str-oh-p-ing.

My thinking on Al Mar was Al (like someones name) and Mar like the month of March.

You can think of "strop" as a variant of "strap" since traditionally you use a leather strap to do it.
