Hello all,

How does one pronounce "sirupati"?

Thanks!

Tom

BTW The 25" sirupati is most impressive! probably as big a blade as I could handle right now. Hopefully, exercise will help.

Don't know how it's supposed to be pronounced, but I go for sear-oo-potty with the accent either on first or third syllable(can't quite decide which I'm accenting on). Wasn't going to answer, as I don't know for sure, but then saw how my pronounciation would be spelled and jsut wanted to say it. ;)

Dunno. I've only seen the word here. :(

I'd try with a Nepali accent but I've never heard a Nepali speak either.

a southern accent works well though. :)

Southern version would be:

Sai-Rooooooooo-Patty

My best guess:
See-roo-pah--tee

very soft T, almost a D sound.
also, there may be a break in the air between pah and tee
Of course, I am using Indian phonemes, Uncle Bill is the expert on these sounds...

In the West it's probably 'patty". In the East. particularly Boston, it has to be "potty'.

I'm on the fence in Oklahoma and to me it's potty.
Just don't potty pee on an electric fence though. ;)

I pronounce it as Siru (spoken "s-ru") pate ("pat a"). The "pate" bit just like how in the UK we say "Pate" (meaning chicken pate etc, you know the stuff you can have in sandwiches)??!!

I've always used sir-oo-pat-tea

Does that mean I've been butchering the Queen's english again?

Hey, K, good to hear from you again.

Thanks Aardvark!! I've been a bit of a lurker of late!! Been busy with work and stuff. Hope to pop by a little more now.

Hey Bruise, I think its probably me butchering the Queens English!! Its one of those words I think that everyone pronounces in their own way.
