How are they properly pronounced?

Boh-wee
or
Boo-wee

tahn-toe
or
tan-toe

I've been going with "boh-wee" for a while, but I was watching a few knife shows and they all pronounced it "boo-wee". I thought it sounded weird :p

as for tanto, I just sort of jump back and forth

I've always used boh-wee like the singer David Bowie and tan-toe. Tahn-Toe has always been the Lone Ranger's side-kick.

I've always said Boo-Wee, because that's how Jim Bowie's, the man the knife is named after, name is pronounced. I also say Tahn-Toe, because it just seems natural, and at the knife shows I've been to they all say Tahn-Toe.

I don't know for sure about "Bowie" I use (buhwee) but "Tanto" is for the most part japanese in dialect, pronounced (tonto) both are long o's.

I pronounce it BOO-WEE. I live in Bowie, MD and the entire area (as far as I know) pronounces it that way. I figure since it's spelled the same way, it must be that way. As far an Tanto goes, it's tan-toe.

Considering my wife is from Japan and pronounces it tahn-to, and they are Japanese designs, I would guess she is correct. As far as the bowie I agree with the others as david bowie.
