I was extatic to receive my Dui Chirra from her today. Well as I carefully opened the triangular package and looked inside one end. As I pulled a wad of papers out that were cushioning the end of the handle from the end of the box, I happen to notice what looked similar to my youngest sons schoolwork but from the other side of the world. After carefully unfolding the crumpled papers for a closer examination I see this!
--pay close attention to the date

I always love it when I open up a triangle box and find a child's schoolwork, though so far I've only seen schoolwork that I think was from an American school. I also love it when I find Nepalese newspapers. Usually I get papers from Reno in the triangle boxes, but every now and then I get papers from Nepal.

Well that certainly explains how she gets those triangle boxes to us so wonderfully quickly. I thought it was something simple like a tame wormhole but a time machine does make more sense :D

Best ones I got seemed to be Nepalese language papers from Reno area. Not positive as I don't still have them and my mind has been really fuzzy with the meds they have me on lately so I might have merged 2 sets of papers in my mind.

Shavru, I'm pretty sure I also got a Nepalese paper from Reno. Seem to recall some pictures that were clearly on US soil going with Nepalese script.

I'm thinking Auntie also prints the Nepalese Reno Times out of the Computer Shack. She's a very enterprising woman!

LaRue, why you gotta be such a tease??? I mean, posting pix of the papers wrapping your khuk, but not the blade itself?? That's just plain cruel..

WE WANT STEEL! WE WANT STEEL! (Come on, chant with me)

It's a little known fact that Nepal is the epicenter of worm hole technology.

So that's where my great great grandchild's report card went! That child is in for a hiding come 2062!

I was hopping to get some better outside natural sunlight pictures but cold and sleet in here so these will have to do.
-18 inch 27 ounce dui chirra by Thamar. Satisal wood handle.

This blade is such a thing of beauty. Feels so amazing in the hand that it is hard to put it down. If it wasn't such a safety hazard and what my wife would say I would take it to bed at night.
Well done Thamar! And thanks again Himalayan Imports.

Now those are some drop dead gorgeous fullers. From what I am seeing that is typical for Thramar who seems to have a way with fullers and teardrop/leaf shaped blades.

What a classic and beautiful piece. You must be very pleased it made its way to you.

... in for a hiding come 2062!

By the way, for any concerned about incipient and brutal forum related actions; In 2062 the action known as a hiding consists of the concealment of a young person's blankey for a carefully calibrated period of time. This period is calculated by algorithm for the individual and is sufficient to modify behavior but less than 1/10 the period projected to induce psychological trauma.

That looks like a positively splendid example of Thamar's work. The fullers are "Foxy Folly" style, like I thought, which I'm sure will give the blade a different feel than mine. That, and yours is an inch longer and few oz heavier.

How does the actual handle color compare to how it comes out in pictures? Is it more red than it looks here? My phone isn't good at capturing reds or how light some of these woods are.

Yeah the pictures don't capture the color correctly on mine either. In person it has a deeper hue or red to it. The pictures male it look lighter.
It has such a different feel than my Ganga Ram Special. The GRS is a good heavy work chopper but difficult in quick directional change follow up swings. Mostly because .2lbs heavier and longer straight grip handle. The Dui feels like a natural extension of my arm in a way. Perfect for a fighter but with just the perfect amount of forward weight to tackle even heavy work if situation warrants. The handle has the perfect amount of curve to cup around the back of your palm giving a confident yet comfortable grasp. The thing I also noticed is how the Dui sings (swoosh sound) through the air while performing left/right/down swings where my GRS wont. I wonder if it is an side effect due to the fullers. Whatever it is I like!

That's fully in the category of "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Love everything about it. Thamar has definitely got talent.

One of my favorites. The curved spine he made for me which is much gooder than the one he built for Bookie is just a gem.

Speaking of which I have a new Foxy Folly on my bench that hasn't been oiled waxed and fondled enough. Hmmmm 1 1/2 hours till my granddaughter arrives for me to watch for the afternoon. My 3rd solo watch. Should work out perfect.

I'll be in the man cave......
