propane cost?

There was a station here that sold it for $1.50 a gallon for years but I've seen it jump up to $1.95 a gallon in less than a year. I did a forging demo in the Seattle area last month and decided to buy propane there. That was a mistake, it was $3.00 a gallon..... $1.55 is a real deal. Has that been the price all along or is that the new price?

I use exchangable tanks at Home Depot (until they open tomorrow, then I'm gettin' a 100# cylinder!). My 40# swaps are $20 and change

refilling my 40 lb. tank here is $15 (at the right place), $25 everywhere else

sry for the OT, but Tom B. is your email link current? cause i tried to send you an email recently about a tracking device and it kept coming back to me.

It's about $2.59 a gal in southern Louisiana. Cost me close to 70 bucks to fill a 25 gal tank. :(

I have been paying 1.79 for the last year at the local Flying J truck stop. When I first started buying Propane about 3 years ago, the price would increase during the winter, but so far, the price has stayed the same now for about 14 months.

I have been lucky with Kerosene too. I pay 2.75 a gallon and the lady says she hasn't increased the price in three years. If I travel up towards Oklahoma, Kerosene gets to about 2.35 a gallon. I used to work up at Lake Texoma, but that was during the summer and I didn't have a need for kerosene then. Ah well.

Razorback; you said "40 gallons", are you sure you didn't mean 40 pounds?
Propane goes from a gas to liquid at 42o below zero, that's why it must be "weighed" upon sale. . One gallon of liquified propane weighs in at 4.23 pounds, that's a little lighter than fresh water; I just filled my 200 gallon tank out at the shop which is dedicated to the forges (two of'em). I forked over $317.00 for 160 gal. of propane or $1.98 a gallon back in mid-Nov.
So, a standard 20# tank will hold 4.72 liquid gallons of propane, now do your math and you'll know what your paying per gallon. Here locally, I spend $12.00 to fill one of the small tanks ($2.54!!!) and am incensed that they (The Dept. of Transportation) won't let me get those filled out here at my shop along with the big tank; I've three of those little ones for various reasons and one #100 pounder as well.

Uhmm... Razorback: your paying $2.95 per gallon!

when I ordered my tank a couple years ago, I had them put a valve and fill hose on it.i can fill up my own small bottles, saves some money.

Mitch, I have two typical gas grill tanks which are either 20 gal. or 20 lbs. I'm not sure how that works. Probably 20 lbs. now that I think about it.:foot:

Here in New York I pay $1.89 at a locked in price for propane. If you buy less than 100 gal. It will run over $3.00 per gal.Fuel oil runs $2.50 To $2.75 per gal.

I did a search on the internet and there is only one place within 20miles of my zip code that refills propane, and they charge an arm and leg. (2.59 a gal) I whould think that it whould cost less in Louisiana because we produce a lot of gass...

Y'all must eat a lot of beans down there.:D

Sorry couldn't resist.:)

Today's (Tuesday) prices at the two places for propane locally:

$60 (with tax) to fill a 100 pound bottle brought to the terminal. (It was $54 last summer. Hasn't gone up as much as I feared.)

Bulk price delivered is $2.70/gallon.

It was 1.85$ a gallon last time I filled up, which was about three months ago.

If it gets up too much I'll switch to charcoal!
