The Harbor Freight Ice Melting tool for about $15 (on sale) seems like a logical first step to building my first forge. With it and a dozen bricks it should be OK. (Might have to beef up nozzle end.)

"Ideal for melting ice or burning weeds. Attaches readily to propane tanks. Wand comes with a flow valve and turbo blast trigger for maximum flame and temperatures over 3000°F! Includes nozzle assembly, metal handle, hard rubber grip, and 6 ft. 8-1/2'' hose.

set the wand so the nozzle is not inside the pile of bricks.

only the flame should be directed into the forge.

oh yeah wire it down some way so it isn't accidently knocked out

Sweany,

How 'bout an extension pipe into the forge? Black or stainless pipe.

Flare make it 'more better'?

Of course, nail that sucker down so it does not melt me.

Have you used common red brick? With coating? etc.
