I use the new Spyderco 204G triangle stick sharpener and wonder what the best angle is for touching up the blade.

Some use 30* some 40*. I would like to know what CRK thinks! and how many passes on each side should do the job? I don't want to go overboard.

and I tried that white lightening stuff on the swivel point, but it seems to stop making with the slippery after a while. I am considering a grease instead. any thoughts? I know CRK makes a knife grease, but wonder if anything local could do as well.

If Anne hasn't mailed off my sheath yet maybe she could toss a sample into the package?

The shop sharpens to 18' a side, so the 40' compound on the sharpmaker is best.

When we were looking at lubricants we tried just about everything we could lay our hands on. We settled on the fluorinated grease because it is slicker than anything you can imagine and it does not go gummy when it dries.

Bill, your sheath is already in the mail:)

Thanks Anne. and thanks ST James for the 40* angle recommendation.

both BG42 and S30V are tough for stainless steels, especially S30v, you can really take the angle down much lower than 40 deg. to enhance performance without weakening the edge, esp. if it is for moderate stress uses too. I sharpen using the 30 deg. angle on Sharpmaker, I know at least one person has gone to 20 deg. with his BG 42 Sebenza:eek:

With the Sharpmaker, CRK says 40 so I use 40 -- then I use the 30 degree to narrow the shoulders of the bevel, to approximate a convex edge.

(OK, I do this so lightly and so rarely that I wonder if I'm having any significant effect. :) The blade does tend to hold the original edge well, and a routine touch-up keeps it from ever needing serious resharpening.)
