Proper Blade Length

Hello everyone. I have just signed up for blade forums today. I have always liked knives amongst other exciting hobbies and trades. I also have always liked the finer side of things. When I buy something I buy the best and most perfect item suited for the purpose I intend to use it for. That being said I have found that Busse is the best due to all the reasons I have read on all the other threads and posts; the style, the steel, the craftsmanship, and the love. Before buying anything I always do research and a long time looking at styles and customizations. I have come to the conclusion that I MUST have a Busse. The trouble is which one. I know a lot of you guys/gals will say "Well then buy many". I wish I could, but the problem is I only have enough love, dedication, and money for one majestic Busse. I am wondering about the various different styles within the Busse Combat lineup. I am curious as to what the differences are between the ASH-1 and Tank Buster. Is it the smaller choil? or is it a difference in blade length? I would like to find the perfect Busse and just fall head over heels in love with it. For a visualization I like a straight edge blade drop point made with INFI steel, with no swedge or serrations, the overall knife length is at or under 12", the blade edge is between 6" and 7" (not including a choil or the ricasso), A blade width/depth (not thickness) at around 2". Due to the nature of my knife handling skills I do not see the need for a choil as I do not use them even when they are present, but needs a good set of grips for me to hold on to. All other aspects of the knife are (to me) inconsequential. I basically like my knives the way I like my women, proportional but thick where it counts.

I guess I am trying to ask if anyone has any knowledge of the various related knives mentioned in this thread as to dimensions and/or any photos to compare the differences between the ASH, the Tank Buster, or any other huge hunk of steel. If a photo is posted please give a brief overview of dimensions as to help me out. I thank you all for any help and support in advance. I look forward to one day becoming a Hog the is willing to scream his/her love of their Busse knife from the roof tops. I know this is a long post but I just really want to love my knife in a way a Marine loves his/her rifle. I myself am a Marine (Ooh-rah!) so I know what that kind of love is supposed to be, I just have not found it in a knife yet. Please help out in any way possible and I will try to thank and appreciate all participants involved. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum

Combat, welcome to the Forum!!
Hang tight, and I'm sure one of the ol' Hogs will come runnin' with a recommendation or 2..
Thanks for your service .

One suggestion that I could give, is to go to the Exchange section of the forum, specifically the Busse For sale section, and have a great time just perusing the blades out there; if you see one you like, you can google it for specs, additional pics..or you can contact the seller for more detail.

Again, welcome to BF :).

Welcome Combat Medic....(One Devil Dog to another) Semper Fi.......

You left out what your intended purpose was for this Special knife...some hints really make it easier to steer you to a blade suited for the task....
Lennox has pointed out the small differences in length but the weight is where it counts and thickness or thinness for slicing....ASH-1 all aound
fine task design not intended to bring down the entire forest more suited to a Battle Mistress....Happy Hunting....:D

I have same mentality as you on quality and is why I ended up at Busse. But in my opinion the one busse to own over all others is the one that excels the most in its given purpose and I don't think any model does as well in its roll as the Mistress does in hers.
It's just my opinion that to own only one it has to be a Mistress. Within busse I see it as the G17, Chevy 350, Colt Govt model etc etc. I only have one TGLB in possession to be given away soon and ASHBMLE (first for me) on order. Which ever you pick will be outstanding, excellent choice and your research and analysis has proven correct in my opinion.

A choiless Basic 6 would have met your desires perfectly. Take a look at the Basic 6 that has already been released and you have 99% what you were looking for. I think Jerry didn't release the 6 in choiless, because it would have been the ULTIMATE blade in this range and ALL other makers would have had to go out of business (See, Jerry's a good man and wouldn't do that to his fellow knife makers).

If you can wait, the Basic 8 is going to be released in two weeks and rumor has it, it's gonna be .275" thick and available without a choil. Maybe a little longer than you wanted but DARN close! It may ruin the industry, but Jerry has habit of only making 2 or 3, so the market won't be flooded too badly.

Imagine this Basic 10 with a 2" shorter blade (top knife in pic....bottom knife is a Team Gemini Light Brigade)

Welcome to the sickness!!!;)

:thumbup:Welcome aboard Devil Dog! I have seen some choiless Tankbusters on the exchange. Right now you could order a choiless Anniversary Straight Handled Battle Mistress(ASHBM) Combat Grade or Limited Edition directly from Busse! OoRah!:) I'm currently waiting on a choiless CG in black with hand shaped black canvas micarta handles. You could request hand shaped instead of machined handles by calling or emailing the shop, if you prefer the smooth handles.

Gus

Some specs of various Busse and kin can be found here

Also specs with photos here

Best of luck with finding the right one!

A 2" deep blade is unusual in a 6" long blade. The only Busse that comes close would be the ASH-1, but it has a choil. For choilless at 6", you have to go with a BOSS Jack LE, but it is narrow.

Skinny ASH1, NOe LE, ETS SJTAC, and a choilless satin BOSS Jack Proto

Here is a butt ground bobbed NOe, and that would be my choice at 12", or an SJTAC if I wanted something lighter. A BOSS Jack could be perfect if you don't have big hands, but the handles are too short for me.

Welcome! Yes, do that research! I tend to favor either short, wide blades, such as the ASH1 - or longer, but narrower offerings, like the Desert Storm Fighter. I find that that long, wide, and fat Busse's to be less "handy in the hand" than the others. But that does not stop me from wanting to own a couple of them!...Cheers.
