Proper DMT Aligner use - back and forth or swiping motion?

The instructions that came with my kit show a back and forth motion as you go down the blade. Like this video:

But the DMT demonstration video shows a swiping motion.

Which way is best? Or does it depend on the type of blade?

I would use a back & forth motion with the lower grits-trying to remove more metal. When using the higher grits then the swiping motion-trying to polish more.
However I don't think either way would make that much of a difference with a normal working edge.
