hey everybody, i just got a BM mini skirmish s30v. first of all, in keeeeping the blade sharp should i just use my sharpmaker frequently or should i buy a steel and learn how to use it? is it true that using a steel often will maintain the edge? also lastly, with my sharpmaker when to do i need to use the back bevel? thanks, possumman

For S30V don't use a steel, use diamond. I use a diamond rod ,fine 1200 grit, and just touch it up occasionally .I don't polish the edges and I think S30V is better with a micro-serrations.

I redid the factory edge on my S30V Native, finishing on the 1200 grit DMT hone. Seems to be much stronger now, also since I can't complain about how sharp it was, it is still about the same sharpness without the slight concave edge grind. One of these days I'm going to try to bring the blade (not edge) to a nice mirror polish; not only for looks, but to try to increase the stain resistance too!
