Proper etiquette advice needed??

I am currently trying to sell my "Holy Grail" custom Bowie and would like to turn the funds into a SHBM. My question is how should I go about finding, and asking some old HOG(s) if they have a SHBM they would part with once my knife sells?

Is it as simple as posting a "Want to Buy" ad? I certainly am not going to send random PM's asking guys to sell their knives simply because they posted a pic of their collection for all to enjoy:confused: What is the proper Hog ediquette I should use to accomplish this most noble of quests?:p

Any help is appreciated

(Mods, this is not intended to be a WTB post as I (sadly) don't have the funds... YET:D)

Put up a listing in the trade section for knives. Put what you want and show what you have:thumbup:

You could aslo put a little blurb in sig line.....WTT for SHBM and link to trade section.

WTB threads are surprisingly effective.

My last one for a specific Culti elicited two responses within hours.

Many of the HOGs check the WTB section before posting FS ads.

And while PM-ing random HOGs isn't the best, work the network of who you know...

Thanks T! Done and done.

Thanks DDM, that's good to know, my fear was the WTB section wouldn't get a hit and random PM's were definitely not an option. I didn't want to hit the network until I had funds since my sale could go for a while as it is a high dollar item.

done and done. Good advice above. If you can score one, you will be happier than a clam in wet sand!

I spent about a month in '08 looking for an SS4 for my dad for christmas with no luck, then posted a WTB and got 3 in a week. With 1 for him and a few extras I had the bravery to get crazy on mine and do my first strip and full convex. It isn't really satin yet but one of my favorite knives I definitely like even more now. The SS4 is hardly a SHBM but the WTB forum is amazingly more effective than you would ever imagine if you've never tried it.
