I'm not sure if this has already been asked. I tried the Search but it's not pulling anything up.

I was wondering if it's Ok to store my ZTBM in the kydex sheath I have for it or if I should leave it out of the sheath. Same question for my coated Busse's.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I wouldn't and don't store my knives in their sheaths, not even the coated blades. Alot of people won't even store their beat up users in their sheaths. It can hold moisture against the metal.

The only drawback I see to Kydex sheath storage of a safe queen is the possibility of drag marks in the finish if it is removed and reinserted. Other than that, I see no problem with it. If it is truly a safe queen, then I would protect the exposed handle from dust accumulation if stored in Kydex, and it should be fine.

If it is a user, absolutely no drawbacks.

There's two simultaneously posted opinions from experience. Take your pick!
Silas and I are glad to be of help.:D

Let me chime in and add my .02. Personally, I store my beater users in the kydex and have never had a problem. On the other hand I wouldn't consider doing this with my nice collectibles. I'm not willing to take the chance.:D

Thanks for the advice!
I shall start storing my safe queens outside the sheath.

My safe queens are wrapped in soft cloth, as are the sheaths, and the boxes (if any) are wrapped in that soft plastic packing stuff. or bubble wrap if I don't have any of the other...

Users stay in Kydex sheaths since I am not worried about possible rub marks, safe queens same as everyone else above.

I store mine in a log. I've found that the wood absorbs any humidity from off the blade and keeps the steel protected from the environment.

Anybody use an airtight plastic box of some sort? I am thinking of something 18-24 inches long that you can put a bag of silica gel in for protection.

Great pic!

You may have stumbled on a great new packing method for shipping... might solve the problem of blades poking holes in their boxes! :)

For my two safe queens, I store them in vac-sealed food saver bags. Just put the blades in a decent piece of cardboard and slide them into the skinny food saver bags and then seal them up like you would food. It works great, so there is no moisture/dust sealed up with them:thumbup: .

Does anyone use Maxpeditions Razor Shell's? I put my SJT in one and it seems like a pretty good way to store it as well as easy access if I need it.
