Proper Procedure?

Hey Guys. I've been making knives for awhile now, 8 reject blanks at different stages, and 2 finished knives, I'm on a roll!!! I've been using large circular saw blades and doing the annealing, hardening and tempering the best I can, but with a lot of warping. I finally got enough confidence to order some ATS-34. At $40.00 a bar I hate to screw it up before I start. Do I heat to non-magnetic and cool in ashes to anneal? I'm hoping to get several blanks that I won't be to embarresed to send for heat treatment. Who does small orders for hardening and tempreing of ATS-34? You may ask yourself "Why would someone with no experence start with the more expensive ATS-34 and not 440c."

The stainless steels such as 440C, ATS-34, 440V, etc. all come annealed from the supplier. When you get your ATS-34, you can grind it as soon as you profile it. No annealing should be necessary.
