Hey guys just got a Benchmade Griptilian in D2 steel from Cabelas. Im new to knives and this is my first folder for edc that i want to keep in good condition and rust free. Whats the proper way to clean these knives?

hot soapy water and try and blow out as much water as you can..if you have an air comressor that would be ideal..those knives can take a beating..very good selection:thumbup:

Does D2 get a patina like good ol carbon blades? I have not tried any of my knives in D2 yet.

BM are great knives and they stand behind them 100%. Hope you enjoy your new knife.

I know my Queen D2s are prone to corrosion. I have occasional black spots appear on the blade. Seems like it can happen in the matter of a few days of carry sometimes. All I do is take some very fine grit (think 10000) jewelers paper to the blade and/or metal polish.

As an owner of a couple japanese swords I need to keep those blades rust-free. I bought a nice size bottle of pharmaceutical grade mineral oil for the swords and use that for my slipjoints as well. Works great and isn't harmful if consumed. I also use the same mineral oil for my natural handle material by rubbing them with a small amount every so often.

A good food or pharmaceutical grade mineral oil will do the job. Stay away from baby oil as they usually have perfumes.

yea actually now that i think about it i think my mini grip is in 154cm. i punish it at work. its come in contact with some rather nasty chemicals but with a quick wash the blades as good as new..putting some mineral oil or remoil on it after washing wouldnt hurt it
