I have been searching for information about steels since a pretty long time now, but I would still like to know more about how the mechanical properties of a steel influence its lateral strength. I mean is it right that it mostly depends on its tensile strength as long as the steel is not brittle? Does the compressive strength also influence its lateral strength? As you may recognize I am don´t know much about it. But I would like if someone could help me.
