Morning

My proposal is for a sub section of the the EXCHANGE FORM that provides selling, buying and trading avenues for those of us on this side of the world, but not limiting our ability to do business with our friends around the globe .

A simple idea for the Asian and Australian Knife Exchange is that all curent BF rules apply and to simplfy it i suggest this,

If you want to either Buy, Sell, Trade you HAVE to place this in the TITLE of your thread first.

EG: For Sale: fixed blade (insert brand)
EG: Trade: folder for fixed (insert brand)
EG: Wanted: ..............

This way we would not need multiple forums for buy/ sell/ trade.

One(1) froum for easy navigation and smooth business.

The outcome out of all this would be a forum that would require minimal mod involvement and an increase in GOLD memberships to support the site.

We are talking about this over HERE

I think thats all and look forward to talking (text) about this some more with hopefully a positive outcome ;).

If we put trading and selling in the same forum, mods would need to check posts constantly for errors, accidental or deliberate.

True.

If it was agreeable, i suggest someone from our side of the world could MOD it to help with the moderation, someone has already said they would or i would even put my hand up too as i am on the net most days and to purely mod the A&AE would be simple.

Would this help,

*buy/ sell/ trade is open to only GOLD membership or higher.

This takes away any issue with non-contributing members selling etc.

I would like to bring this back up in light of recent event concerning our Australian forum being closed down.

I for one would purchase a GOLD membership, thats the point right raise some $$$$ to support the site.

I don't see where the number of interested Gold members is the question. Any time someone wants a new forum, what Spark asks is how much traffic will that forum see? In other words, how many transactions take place in the Asian/ANZ area?

This is a tricky question to answer, since without the forum, we don't always see if a transaction is to, from, or within the area. The buyer and seller may not be identified by area online, only when they contact each other for shipping costs and arrangements.

There is a way to get all the Asian/ANZ sales, trades, and WTBs in one list, but it takes discipline to get everyone sharing the information. What you need to do is prefix every sale, trade, or WTB with a code like A/ANZ.

Then a buyer would go to Search, Advanced Search, Search by Keyword (A/ANZ), then highlight The Knife Exchange. This would bring up every coded Exchange item in one search page/s.

It would take a lot of informing and perhaps convincing, to get the community on board. It would still leave the actual offers in their proper Exchange forums for moderation, if necessary. But for Asian area buyers and sellers and traders, it would pull out their preferred regional offers.

If it showed a serious number of transactions, it could justify a separate forum, like the Canadians got.

No question that Oz/NZ is a smaller marketplace than Canada, but now that Laventrix.com is toast, the traffic from that forum could be taken up by BF...

Morning Esav,

The prefix is a good idea but i'm thinking its a post in large area, if the post is going to be made anyway why not in a dedicated regional area ?.

i mentioned the Gold membership as this is the minimum requirment to sell on BF and believe it to easier to moderate when checking F/S threads (members title).

i wish i could provide a transaction history of the slaes/ trade etc that originate from our side of the world, are you able to see how many members are from this part of the world ? (long shot).

Thanks for getting involved in the topic :).

Regards, Tim

The advantage to the prefix is that your posts are still in the regular Exchange area, traders and buyers won't need a Gold membership, but you could selectively search for local area first if you like. The threads would already be moderated as they are now, no extra load.

I have no way of searching by locale. In fact some members don't even have that information anywhere in their profiles, and it isn't always obvious by their IPs.

Well, let's keep thinking about this, how we might make it work.
