Proposal: Rep points Guidelines

Despite all of the threads concerning reputation points, I have yet to see a clearcut set of guidelines as to the use. Perhaps one is needed in order to boost usage and reduce abuse.

Disengage in political as you don't want democrats and republicans detracting from a system designed to capture trollish behavior. Don't believe me? Compare those with -10 and -50 reputation on political vs. those with the majority of their negative rep points on other forums. There is a dynamic here. And for all BF readers, a red square could be a "red square" regardless of how it was obtained. Someone should be penalized if they are trolling, making trouble or are being intentionally disruptive. There is, in my judgment, relative to other forums a greater likelihood in the political forum for skewing of the distribution for red square BF members those who are honestly not trolling but simply see a different picture. And notwithstanding our political differences, if we all love knives and knifemaking and aren't here for the purpose of causing trouble, shouldn't we get a break from those who simply disagree with our point of view? Even BF members with green squares shouldn't be penalized because they have a different view point.

I agree with the sentiment and I wish you luck, but experience would suggest you're pissing up a rope and you're about to read a story about a guy running for dog catcher.

I think we've had rep point burnout around here, one thread after another. The problem is, rep points are going to be anything anyone wants to make of them. It's up to each of us to decide how seriously we want to take an essentially unregulated system. (Suggestion: very lightly.)

I use it to pat someone on the back for a good line and a couple of people have used it to say hello after not running across me on the forums for a while -- in other words, like a quickie private message.

Some forums were using it as a joke, greening all their friends.

There's no electoral integrity in the system and there won't be, so just use it for fun and communications. If someone dings you or doesn't say anything or sign it, ignore it.
