Just wanted to throw some love towards the bk7.. I;ve been reading allot of posts.. in praise of the 9 or the 2.... but man I just think the 7 is the bees knees, i;ve used mine extensively hear in the forests of the North east.. and it is just a do all knife like an American Leuku... any love out there?
Please Ethan and Kabar, don;t ever pull this model.. Thanks.

Oh, I gots tons of love for the BK7. It was my first Becker. It saw more action than all my other Beckers have so far. I bought it for a replacement for my 1217, but I never really replaced it, just kinda, found a new love. Still got several 1217's BNIB.

I think the 7 is a perfect knife, for a one knife scenario, or a just as a personal weekend knife. I do love knives, and the 7 ranks high among them.

I think it doesn't get that much fanfair, because it is so good. Sounds stupid, but I mean it. Its good at everything, with very little loss on either side. It chops, and it carves and does everything in and between. I dubbed it "The Little Black Dress of the BKT lineup" some time ago. I mean it. It will go everywhere and do everything. Perfect size and weight, and great grind geometry.

Here's the only downside, I think it is presented too much as a combat knife and not as a woodland knife. I think the longer clip point, and profile, make it seem more as Combat than utility. BK9 is called a Combat Bowie, but it has that abrupt clip. BK7, is sleek, long, black and very, very deadly looking.

I know the guy that designed it, I have asked him what was his thoughts behind it, as I have every knife he's designed. Its called a BK7 Combat/Utility. Combat/Utility. For most woodlanders, anything that looks like a fighting knife, doesn't get much play.

I hope the design never goes away, I love the knife, and now, I'm gonna have to go get a new one to beat the shit out of, just because of this wall of text. The only 7 I have left is my first one, and it won't get used. It sits next to my Rienhardt, in their places of honor.

Great post, RR, and thanks for renewing my passion about the 7. The BK2 is still my "The Knife", but, the BK7 was my "The Knife" before the 2 was. So........... off to the goggle shopping.

I don't have a 7 yet,but have been considering one.I've also been looking pretty hard at the 5,really dig that one too.I've got a 2 and a 9,really enjoy both of them!

Moose, I hear you on the combat like appearance, the clip point however is one of the things that gives it it;s versatility.. great for drilling, or gutting a fish. I also find the thinner stock slices better during food prep that the 2.
sometimes though when i unsheath itI do hear the exhasperated Rambo comments:
Story time:
I went car camping last summer with all my brothers, and sisters, and there families (sort of a family reunion) at a family camp ground (not wilderness by any means)
I got there the second day only to find that they had no fire the first night. because the only wood avail was sold in large logs. and no one had a tool capable of breaking any of it down to kindling.
Out came the bk7, with it the comments.. "easy Rambo" "what are you gonna stab the wood" etc.etc.. till within 20 mins I had all the wood split down in to appropriate stages of kindling, and fuel.. Than later My sis (fantastic cook) brought out dinner for us all a premade roast Pork, only to realize no one brought a kitchen knife, Bam again came out the bk-7..also the comments but thin slices for 15 people as well as cutting the cake afterword seemed to quiet them up.... Than when the rowdy group of guys came up and started to cause a fuss cause the had seen my niece in a bikini earlier n the day,
out came the 7 again in plain view as I very purposefully cut myself another chunk of roast.. suddenly no-one had anything to say.. but the rowdy guys beat a hasty retreat, yet managed to mutter out a drunken Rambo comment as the stumbled off.
The next day at breakfast as I was buttering a bagel for my son with the same knife my sisters husband says "man you really can use that for just about anything huh? where can I get one?"
perceptions can be rough, but performance can change even the most obtuse minds.
just my 2 cents fwiw

Cool story. Having people actually use a knife or the knife can be a big help. Though I think I could do without the comments. Then again, rambo was badass...maybe they were complimenting you!

The bk7 is always on me over the weekends. Great knife to carry around. Though admittedly the bk9 is still my favorite and the one I get the most enjoyment out of. Sharpening the clip point would be pretty cool on the bk7, would make a very formidable weapon.

Oh, there is much love for the BK7 at Casa de MikeyJ!! It was my first Becker...and third! I've got nothing but love for the entire Becker line, but the 7 will always hold a special place on my belt!!!

Becker knives are like asking someone "which shoe do you like better, the left one or the right one ?" There is no good answer except, you like them all as much as any one, because they all work excellent.

The 2 and the 7 are my favs....

Same here. They were the first ones I bought. I chose not to get the 9 as I'm not into the super long blades. I'll probably pick one up sometime.....maybe next payday...to check it out and see how it does but the 7 is a great-sized smallish big knife.

 I like the story!!

My "go to" knives are the 7 and 9. I generally alternate, unless weight/ bulk will be a factor. My 7 gets way, waaaay more love than my 2, which, in these parts, could be grounds for a lynching :P

RR, great story. I know what you're saying, it does make it a versitile and FANTASTIC woodland knife, my point was, its looks turns many folks of to the thoughts of it as nothing but a Combat knive. Once they use it, well, hell, you know what happens next. I love the BK7 and have a new one winging is way to me as we speak, went shopping last night.:D

I plan on having a good "something" in the future, contest, giveaway, or passaround maybe for the beloved, yet, underated BK7, to boost some BK7 awareness. I may perhaps get in touch with you to help me do some plannin' on that one. We'll see.

Thanks again for the story, and it really does fit all situations.

Hell yeah, a BK7 thread!
It's by FAR my favorite Becker. It's the most versatile knife in the lineup (imo).
The 7 can handle way more than it's weight class would suggest. Mine is a Camillus but I want one of the new Kabar's soon.

John, you have any ideas for a BK7 challenge? Something big/complicated that has to be done solely with the 7?

Muh muh muh myyyy micarta! Oh boy. I think I may be making a purchase soon....

Yeah, that pic is hot. I will be putting some micarta on my BK7 when it gets here, soon, I hope.

The BK-7 was my first Becker and is still my favorite knife PERIOD. It shares space in my stash with some damn nice steel ( Busse and family, ESEE, Fallkniven, BRK&T, Horton, Krein, Lake, Dozier, et al) but is second to none. I slapped some Micarta slabs on that 7, put a nasty edge on it and now it's too pretty to use:D. I need another one to pound on!! But I've always thought that the 7 was something of a 'middle-child' as well. Between the Bk-7 and my Brutes (one stripped and one factory) they are the quintessential Beckers'.

I'll agree with you there Moose. I think the 7 is a bit intimidating and although the 2 is pretty badass looking too I get the same impression from people's reactions when I carry the 2 as oppose to the 7. The reaction I get from carrying the 2 is more like a tool rather than a deadly combat knife. The 7 is basically the Rambo knife just without the serrations on the back. I think my BK2 just gets more use because it looks like it could take a beating. Must be the 1/4 inch thickness. Even though I know the BK7 could handle batoning, chopping, slicing etc. I still feel more comfortable beating up the BK2. Just my opinion. I should take the 7 out though...might bite me if I don't give it any wood to munch on
