Oh, I gots tons of love for the BK7. It was my first Becker. It saw more action than all my other Beckers have so far. I bought it for a replacement for my 1217, but I never really replaced it, just kinda, found a new love. Still got several 1217's BNIB.
I think the 7 is a perfect knife, for a one knife scenario, or a just as a personal weekend knife. I do love knives, and the 7 ranks high among them.
I think it doesn't get that much fanfair, because it is so good. Sounds stupid, but I mean it. Its good at everything, with very little loss on either side. It chops, and it carves and does everything in and between. I dubbed it "The Little Black Dress of the BKT lineup" some time ago. I mean it. It will go everywhere and do everything. Perfect size and weight, and great grind geometry.
Here's the only downside, I think it is presented too much as a combat knife and not as a woodland knife. I think the longer clip point, and profile, make it seem more as Combat than utility. BK9 is called a Combat Bowie, but it has that abrupt clip. BK7, is sleek, long, black and very, very deadly looking.
I know the guy that designed it, I have asked him what was his thoughts behind it, as I have every knife he's designed. Its called a BK7 Combat/Utility. Combat/Utility. For most woodlanders, anything that looks like a fighting knife, doesn't get much play.
I hope the design never goes away, I love the knife, and now, I'm gonna have to go get a new one to beat the shit out of, just because of this wall of text. The only 7 I have left is my first one, and it won't get used. It sits next to my Rienhardt, in their places of honor.
Great post, RR, and thanks for renewing my passion about the 7. The BK2 is still my "The Knife", but, the BK7 was my "The Knife" before the 2 was. So........... off to the goggle shopping.
