Brad Duncan and Larry Chew use bearings for the pivot of their folders. I haven't handled one yet, but they are supposed to be very smooth. Anyone care to comment about the drawbacks, if any, of such a system?

...but handling one of Brad's manual-actions at the CTKS, was like sex on ice...

He was right...it really is as fast as an auto. It takes about a dozen flips to get used to the action, but once you do, 'taint nothin' to it!

If there were to be any drawback to it, I would guess that it might be slightly more susceptible to catching grit, but I'd have to torture-test one, just to be sure (*HINT, HINT*)...for at least a year, maybe longer, just to be objective and thorough...

:D

I've got one of Larry's 4" spitfires and the action is truly amazing. I've never handled a folder as smooth. The weight of the blade alone will carry it around the pivot. I can sit and play with it endlessly.

Larry said the type of grease he uses will float grit out. The knife is too nice to get dirty anyway, so I don't really care one way or the other.
