Pros/cons of G10 Police 3

Hello,
I've never posted in the Spyderco forum before, but I've got a couple questions about the G10 Police 3. Is the detent as strong as say, my Delica?
I've spent thousands of dollars trying to find the "perfect" folder. Basically, what I've learned, is that everybody seems obsessed with lock strength. I've had a couple titanium liner locks (CRK, Hinderer), a bunch of Benchmade autos, some Benchmade Axis locks, Emerson liner locks, and a few others. I've had a surprising number of tip-up knives open in my pocket, or found them laying half open in/on the couch after having came un-clipped from my pocket.

I use my knives for cutting. I'm not nearly as concerned with a knife staying open. I can keep the edge facing the right direction when I use it. I need to be sure my knife is going to stay closed when I expect it to.

I bought a FFG delica, which I really like. I have NO concerns about it opening when I don't want it to. But now, the Police 3 has caught my eye. I couldn't find any threads/posts talking about the Police's detent strength. Is it comparable to my Delica? (Hopefully I'm using the right term, I just mean the knife's bias toward closure)

Thanks for reading,
-Matt

A strong backspring and a light blade, it's the only knife with a blade over 3" that I can't flick open.
I consider the Police III to be a relative of the Military. The overall shape of the two knives are very similar, with the Police III being slightly wider and longer, but with thinner scales. It carries very well.

I especially appreciate it since it's a capable folder that you can carry without worrying about gravity knife laws

No worry about it opening accidentally. Closed length is considerably more than I like to carry, but it's just not possible to pack a 4"+ blade in a handle that works for me. It's a well made knife, smooth action, excellent slicing ability. If you've invested that much time and money, and even mildly interested in it, I'm assuming you're ok with the blade length and relatively unstructured handle.

My only issue with the G10 Police 3 was the handle was too thin and narrow for the length. It was just too long and thin for my taste. Like holding a butter knife to me. Other than that, great knife.

Well, I think that about settles it. Long and thin is fine with me handle-wise, and I'm more concerned about grind/width than length. I think I better pick one of these up. Thanks for the inputs, all!

This photo will give you an idea of it compares in size to your Delica, and to the Military.

Good choice, Matt. This is my favorite folder. No worries about it coming open in your pocket. The back lock is plenty strong. I can't flick (wrist snap) it open either. 4.25 inches of FFG VG10 in a slim, relatively thin package with a choil & a deep index groove. It pushes all my buttons. Let us know how you like it when it comes in.

Paul,
Thanks for the picture, that does help.

All,
I've pulled the trigger, and will post with my impressions once I recieve the knife. It'll probably be a couple weeks.

thanks! now i have to get a G-10 as well; the SS police PE is in the mail already.. loving the flat-grind of that model. police just ROCKS!

G-10 police 3 =

i dont know why, but for me, after my first spydie, not sure but i think it was a "worker", they just have to come in SS; tough, i really liked the civilian when i had one, and dont really mind the kershaw i have now. but it just doesnt cut it like a spyderco does, IMO!

Like others above, I couldn't wrist-flick the Police 3 Passaround knife like you can with FRN knives like the Delica or Endura.

I've played with one at the local store. It's a tad long and thin for my taste, but it's a nice, well made knife. It'll stay shut for you.
