Guys,

Im looking for a comfortable D/A knife. I wear slacks daily and tuck my knife at the 4 oclock position via pocket clip.

I carry a older spiderco tanto Lum (tough knife but BIG) and have been for the last 4 years.

Im looking for a smaller, lighter, faster, and comfortable knife.

Ive got my heart set on the Protech Godson.. only problem is its full auto.

NOW to the question..

What do you guys think about making this knife a D/A??

1) put on a disk thumb stud (recess the blade a bit and secure disc w/ a screw)
2) machine the push button area closest to the insert flat
3) make a new insert that is felxable and will cover the push button

now, it all sounds good but Im not sure it will actuate w/ a disk. The rest seems pretty easy.

Who would be willing to do the work?

This would be my ULTIMATE carry knife.

Any response/ideas appreciated. I will post this thread in a couple of different areas.

Thanks guys

I don't work on autos and don't even want to go there with the mailing issues involved around them. I do apologize. Many have asked me but the one I did work on was a local gent that brought it by my house. I never should have posted that one because it led to others contacting me about working on theirs after that.

I had an auto at one time and didn't know then about the legal ramifications of it. Now that I do I cannot bring myself to even mess with them.

Again my apologies but thank you very much for asking me.

I appreciate the chance to work on a knife for you but on an auto I'll have to pass unless you want to drop it off personally here. In which case I'll be happy to look at it for you.

I understand Bill Deshivs. ( sorry if I misspelled your name Bill) works on autos. I do not know the extent of it though. He has his own forum that can probably be found on a google search though so I'd try to look him up through that forum.

Thanks for the prompt response and honesty.

As a professional do you think the project is feasible for a reasonable $ figure?

I wish i could afford a mill and lathe..

Thx

The threading of a hole in the blade after hardening is a very doubtful thing to happen in my mind. A thumb stud is feesible because you can easily buy a cardide drill and using a drill press drill the hole but installing a thumb disc is probably not possible now.

aahh, didnt think about the fact that the blade is already hardend.

small tap, hard steel = expensive plug w/ tap snaps.

good call
