HELLO, I'm thinking of ordering a protech stinger, I like the way it looks, its light weight and small, and I could open it with one hand if the other is occupied. Unfortunaltly, N.Y laws look down on such a knife, "oi" I already have a ULtratech that rarely leaves my computer desk, but it is fun to play with. I have a small sebbie with bloodwood inlay as my EDC, I even carry it in N.y.C, but I always keep it in its leather pouch in my pocket, like myself its rather unasuming looking so I have "no worries" about carrying it. However, I like the speed of an automatic,so I got myself a kershaw scallion for work, and a rainbow chive as a dress gent, great knives I must say. I'm thinking if I get the Stinger, I'll carry it as a back up for my CRKT M-1 for when I hike, camp of take pics in the mountains (fall foliage is coming), or even rotate it in with my sebbie as another EDC.Now I have never been in trouble a day in my life,my record is as clean as a whistle, and Iv'e never given law enforcement a reason to give me a second glance. If i did carry it I would of course be very discreet in where and how I open it. So, I'm probably gonna order it later, does anyone have any imput in this knife, or any advice on this situation I would appreciate it. thanks for your time

Off topic question... does your M1 liner lock release with spine pressure? mine used to lose it when light pressure was applied to the back for a few seconds...

I don't know if the law has been ammended or not but in NYS you used to be able to carry an automatic knife if you were going fishing and I think hunting. Not positive on the latter part of that though. Had a deputy sheriff tell me this that I was acquainted with a while ago. Keep'em sharp
PS if I still had my penal law code I would look it up. The DEC could probably answer that one though

New York City is not New York State, even if you are hunting and fishing. Which is hard to do in midtown Manhattan :D

I've got a beautiful little Pro-Tech Duke, about the same size as the Stinger. I would no more carry it in NYC than I would my Godfather. I'd hate to have to hand it over to some neanderthal "security officer".

If you're going to carry it going about your regular business, it will be as invisible as you are. Once you're off the city streets, definitely go ahead and take it along.

As the Mutt has said before a long with a lotta New Yorkers, everything's legal til your caught

I this knife worth an illegal weapon charge? I know you may be unassuming but anything can happen. God forbid you have to use it for SD, then your talking serious s@#$.

Roodog, nobody, but nobody, is going to use the Pro-Tech Stinger as a self-defense knife. There's just not enough knife there for self-defense :D

In NYC, even if the knife is legal, when it's used for SD purposes, a PDW charge is almost always gonna be filed against you.

I believe there is an exclusion for one armed persons and DEC exclusion for hunting, trapping, and fishing. Most likely you would still have problems,as I'm sure Law Enforcement personnel will likely not have a clue as to the exceptions. It's really not worth the trouble as you will find that auto's actually don't open much faster than practice with a one hander. They are fun to play with, but keep them home.

I'd keep them home. I live in the metro NY area. When I had auto's, I'd carry them, but be frustrated that I felt at risk to produce it during the day, much less fire it off. I'd contantly be aware of having it on me. This thinking took the fun out of it. It also took the usefulness out of it - to have a knife I was hesitant to use.
