Hey guys, so I got my protech integrity in yesterday, and I have not been able to put it down. It is an awesome knife in pretty much every way. I'm considering even buying another in black or serrated.

All that said, there are a few things that bother me about this knife.

1. The lock bar is very sticky. I have put pencil lead on it, and it makes it smooth for a short while, but goes back again. Also it has a very early lock up, which I like, but when it first came I could push it closed without disengaging the lock. But after hundreds of openings it has gotten better.

2. It opens very smooth, but I wish it was a little smoother for a faster opening, but not a huge deal.

3. Pretty much a preference for me, but I wish the clip was lower. It's not bad but I like really deep riders.

Overall the biggest thing is the sticky lock bar I don't like. I feel like this should not happen with a knife of this caliber.

Let me know if any of you have noticed any of these issues as well, and if there is anything I can do.

Try permanent marker instead of pencil lead. Give it a minute to dry and then try it, that should last until the knife is broken in.

It's just the nature of steel contacting titanium. I use Sharpies myself and that tends to work. Like evanPGH said, let it dry before you use it. Putting a couple of coats on doesn't hurt either.

  1. Apply Sharpie and let it dry
  2. Do as many open/close cycles as you can before it gets sticky again
  3. Back to step 1

On a side note, the two TR-3 that I've had for about a year now did not have the sticky lock issue but I got one about a month ago and it did! All are in S35VN.

Glad you like it Hillbilly! Mine does not have the sticky lock, however like others have mentioned give the Sharpie trick a try. Mine also has early lock-up but doesn't fail. Now I just have to try and decide whether to keep my TR-3 or the Dauntless Mk3 I just got, they are too similar for me to keep both. Both are amazing knives.

Agreed.

The TAD Dauntless Mk3 is flawless as if they really worked on it before it left the factory. Also, the stonewashed blade and titanium clip & handle are nicely done. If only the reverse side was also stonewashed titanium instead of G-10 then it'd be perfect.

Mind you the TR-3 cost me $100 less than the Dauntless and it's an extremely underrated folder.

Would love to see a TR-3 & Dauntless with a 3" blades.

Got a chance to pick up a LNIB JD forum tr3 for225.00 and was wondering if that's a decent deal, all fee's included it sure looks like a nice knife.

My last one was from BF dealer ExtremAddiction for $229.89 and when you mention you're a BF member he reimburses the shipping charge so final price is $229.89.

I agree that the Dauntless would be even better with titanium on both scales instead of G10 on one side, that is what helped me decide to get the Integrity.
I bought my Integrity from extremaddiction as well, but was unaware of the shipping refund for being a member. I will have to remember that next time.

I believe it's not too late to get the refund on shipping. Just email him the PayPal receipt and ask for the refund! Worth a try!

Hillbilly, if Protech is still using the three hole pocket clip, and that is they picture on their website, then there are titanium foldover deep carry clips available. The one's I use come from usaknifemaker and are a perfect fit for the standard three hole clips, although you only use two of the three screws, but I've never had any problems with the clips becoming loose.

Ya it is the three hole clip. Awesome I will have to check on those clips. I didn't know they were interchangeable like that.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do I know which one to buy. And do I get one with holes already or no holes?

I have 2 of the TR3 manuals and they are great knives. Neither of mine had the sticking issure but other framelocks which I have did have the problem. I used the pencil routine and just kept flipping them and eventually they worked fine. Both my TR3's are smooth, hold an edge well and are very well made. Fit and finish is good, no blade movement and good lock up. I have many other knives: CRK, ZT, Wilson Combat, etc. but I find myself carrying the TR3 the most as I like everything about it.
