Protecting bone scales

So, I have been researching all of options for rust prevention products for pocket knives with 1095 blades, any info on stuff that also won't harm the bone scales on my user GEC's? Thanks in advance.

Food grade mineral oil is the only thing I use on my knives, inside and out. Just lightly dampen a cloth with it and wipe down the entire knife.

Clean and dry after use. Minimal oil is needed, as others have mentioned mineral oil is great if you use the knife for food.
Rust has not been a problem for me and I rarely use any oil on my carbon steel knives.

If you get the internals wet try using compressed air to blow it out. Suggested to me by a forum member and it works great.

Unless you're trying to keep your EDC 1095 knife shiny-new looking all the time just carry and enjoy it. Rust is really no concern with regular use and carry. If you use the knife and carry it you'll have the natural patina of the steel and this is just nature taking it's course. Unless you leave it sit out in the weather for a couple days - then you might end up with some rust, but if you carry and use it daily (assuming you don't worry about normal patina) then these knives are very little maintenance. I really don't fret over them at all. I give it a quick wipe at the end of the day is about all. If using it for food I'll rinse the blade in hot water in the sink then dry the blade. That's it. A drop of oil in the joint once a month and it will last for decades.

Your bone scales are pretty much maintenance free other than maybe a wipe with thin coating of mineral oil a few times a year. If it's exposed to chemicals, etc that could be a different matter, but the natural oils in your hands alone will probably suffice to keep the bone scales looking good for many, many years. The only major enemy to any natural scale material is long exposure to direct sunlight (think dashboard of the car or a window sill?) and harsh chemicals.

If you put the knife away for a period of time is when I'd maybe consider a thin coat of mineral oil.

I will be carrying these and enjoying them, I don't mind a patina and normal pocket wear. I was a little concerned with some opinions about constant oiling and storage maintenance and inspections. These live in their tubes in the wax paper when I'm not carrying them. Thanks for the helpful information everyone.

Share some pics when you get time :)

If you store them then a good oiling prior to putting them away is a great idea. Now if you live in 90% humidity then it's a bigger concern than where I am in 5%-40% humidity ranges. Your EDC will tell you if it needs more maintenance - if you notice rusting or excessive peppering then step it up a little. In it's earliest stages it just rubs off with an oily rag and your thumbnail or the edge of a copper penny (the older pennies NOT the newer zinc ones!). In general these things are not problematic at all unless you're just extremely OCD, then you're maybe best staying with SS, lol.

Same. That's all I've ever used, and I've never rusted a knife.
