Protecting Busse INFI steel

This might have been covered before but I just spend ~$400 on my first Busse (TGLB with black finish, G-10 handles) and want to make sure it's protected over time. I'm thinking about giving it a wipe down with a tough cloth.

Any recommendations, anyone else use Tough Cloth on their Busses?

Just keep it dry. Infi has better rust resistance than some stainless steels IME.

Congrats on your new Busse!

-Tuff Cloth is great. If your going to use it in regards to any food prep use Food GRADE Mineral Oil. Any good quality gun oil, Tri-Flow, even WD-40. Just keeping it dry is one of the best things you can do. I have stored knives in and out of Leather for years but if you do you have to check the knife for corrosion OFTEN. Kydex hasn't been a problem at all yet again as long as your steel is DRY and the sheath is DRY. My rule of thumb now days is just store them in a sleeve and keep the sheaths separate. Oh if you have Satin blades one of the best preservatives is Renaissance Wax (Ren Wax). Just my abbreviated .02!!!

Thanks for the advice. I'm just going to store it in a safe so I was thinking I'll leave it in the cardboard sheath with and then wrap it in cloth or something. If I do this would it still be necessary to apply Tuff Cloth just to be sure?

INFI is a very forgiving steel from what I've found; more than D2 even.

For my uses, I find Infi to be stainless.

I have swam with it in chlorine and not dried it off. Just left it in the sheath.

Canoed with my BAD, where I swam with it in the sheath in the summer. When I finished the 2 day trip, the knife had a slight discoloration on the logo, but as soon as I touched it with my thumb, it went away.

Coated infi? Should need no protection at all.

I use a little Rem oil. When I come in from the woods I just give my knives a spray and wipe them off. Haven't had a problem.

If you plan on storing any blade for an extended period without maintenance Ren wax is a great choice. But I wouldn't worry. The INFI safe queens I have seen for sale always have an unblemished finish just being stored in their tactical cardboard.

Mate, I had no issues with coated or uncoated INFI in Sydney. Once I have left a satin GW in kydex sheath for a few weeks after using in bush without cleaning, had a few spots of rust but it came off after just rubbing with a finger.

I use tuf cloth marine on everything from infi to Damascus, never let's me down. And since its not oil based it doesn't attract dust/debris which is what scratches your satin finished knives in Kydex.

I think that means "that mean little bugger". You didn't get one? I think he meant to say TGLB:)

Nothing like a little Hoppes #9 flavoring though :D

Wait.......Infi needs protection?

Apparently. Must be why people keep them in a safe ;) :D

I've been using marine tuff cloth on Infi, SR101, D2, and 1095 with no problem. It does cause some smudges sometimes but it can be easily wiped off.

Yeah I meant TGLB, it comes free with "that mean little bugger" haha

Think I'll just go with the 'tactical cardboard' in the safe, tuff cloth sounds like its a bit of overkill.

Tuf cloth is good stuff. I do like mineral oil though for knives that will prep food or process game. That being said, I have never had a problem with Infi even on extended hunting trips with little to no cleanup for weeks at a time.
