I hate polishing those bolsters to a mirror finish just to have them scratch up by just wiping them with a paper towel!

Does anyone have a miricle finish to use on these things? I have been coating them with the finishing oils I use on the scales. Don't know how well that will hold up but am sure not for long.

Try 416 SS its not that hard to work with. Harder to get scratches out, but harder to scratch also. I find people can't tell the difference by looking at the finished knife.

Wiping them with a soft piece of Chamois is another way to keep from scratching them. Same for blades. Most makers use chamois at shows etc.

Mike,

That's cool. Actually I was just using the paper towel as an exagerated example. I guess I am wondering if there is a prefered coating to protect it from normal use. It just seems that nickel silver scratches so easily and I do not wish to stop using it. Maybe I'm being too particular. Maybe a clear polyurethane is worth a try.
