I have been looking for thin leather protective, slip in, "sheaths" for my slipjoints, when I carry them in my pocket. Who makes or carries these for sale? I have seen them, but I cannot remember where. Thanks.

I make ones of cowskin and calfskin, lined and unlined. I use to make allot with felt lining, but found that if you leave it in too long it can collect too much moisture, so I have gotten away from making these kind.

I have not had time to make any in a while (not sure if I will get some time).

What size had you been looking for?

I make my own. I go to Tandy Leather once in a while and buy large pieces of "ordinary" leathers and scraps of "exotics". I have also purchased a variety of fish leather from knifemaker Thomas Haslinger. I design, cut and trim very carefully with a surgical blade, and then use Barge Cement to glue the pieces together. No stitching at all!

I leave some unlined and some I line with chamois or very thin pigskin - depending on how easily I want the knife to slip from the case.

I make really cheap ones myself, just go to any fabric and sewing store and get 1 1/2 inch black or white elastic strap, fold over the knife to find the length then sew up the sides with upholstry thread which is real strong. I've added cord to some to make neck pouches also.

cost less than a dollar to make.

I'll go the opposite end of the spectrum...
I have two Kenny Rowe slip-joint sheaths, one ostrich and the other elephant. Both are functional works of art and add to the pleasure of carrying a slipjoint.

I carry the ones made by Den's of England. Simon Lytton always has them at the knife shows he attends. They are thin, lined, and have a velcro flap to keep the knife in and pocket junk out. They come in many different sizes and leathers.

Folks I got this from a old book years ago. It cliamed that you would never lose your pocket knife again if you used it. It use soft suede type leather. You use a piece about 16" long 1" wide for about 8 of those inches and about 3" wide for the remainder. This can be ajusted for the size of the pocket knife you wish to use. Use a leather hole punch and put two holes in the top portion running parlell with the length of leather. Space them according to the the width of your belt with some wiggle room. Now use the knife to cut from one hole to the other. Fold up the wider bottom portion and punch holes through both pieces together. Sitch together with a fine leather string or some heavy cotton string. On the out side of the newly stiched portion do the hole punch and cut thing as above and so that you can slip the narrow part through that. This keeps the knife secure. Attach to your belt and away you go. Makes a great project to do on your own and fun to teach others. I have had mine for years and YES, I have never lost my pocket knife. Just my 2 cents. ;)

I'm having a hard time visualizing this. Do you mean that it is fastened to your belt but slips down in your pocket?

The long leather peice hangs from you belt down into your pocket. A talented person could make this thing a true work of art. I did mine very plain to have a rustic look. Thus the reason to take into consideration the size of your knife, and the length into your pocket. If you want I can try and post a photo of it. Not sure if I am allowed to do that with my minimum status on the forum.

That's ok, thanks. I think I know what you mean.
