In the operating instruction manual that came with my Ken Onion Speed-Safe models it says;"We recommend that you leave the protective sleeve that comes on the blade of your Kershaw Ken Onion knife (except model 1600) in place until you've had a chance to practice opening and closing the knife several times". I've been buying these knives for years and have never seen anything like this protective sleeve included with any of them. Not that I want or need one, I was just curious as to what it was. Did Kershaw include them at one time and then discontinue it? Why? Thanks for any info.

blades come with protective devices? why would you want to cover up the blade? that defeats the purpose of buying a knife in the first place. :D

Knives did have small plastic cover over blade , especially the combo edge knives. I venture to guess more people got cut trying to put the cover back on the blade than they did with it off :D:D:D

From a black Blur I bought back in 2003 right up to the blue one born on May 2008, they all have the same disclaimer. One would think Kershaw has had plenty of time to change the instruction manual to remove any reference to this protective cover. Must have been an awfully thin cover to be able to operate the speedsafe mechanism while it was installed.

Darn, you're supposed to take the sleeve off?

I had just about given up on cutting anything with some of my older knives.

Guess I'll have to remember to R.T.F.M. in the future. ;)

Never saw a sleeve on mine either, but I also never read the instructions to know what I was missing !
