Did Schrade use a protective wrap on their knives for storing them with the sheaths? I noticed some Schrades for sale show this protective treated paper with the knife. Any info on this would help. I like storing my knives with their sheaths even though this is not recommended. I bought an LB8 that was stored in this manner that had some pitting from the green crud. I would like to know where I can buy this kind of protective wrap. I am trying to keep my collection as close to the original as possible as far as boxes, papers and even wrapping.

I really don't know when they started using the protective wrap on the LB knives. I bought a passle of NOS LB sheaths when they went on auction and some have those paper wraps inside and others don't. They read:

"UNIWRAP*A - treated with volitile corrosion inhibitors (VCI) - Keep this item corrosion free - face opposite side to metal - do not unwrap until ready to use - do not use with foodstuffs - DAUBERT VCI INC."

The papers are about 6 3/4" square. They have a slight "gun oil" smell.

I would think that something like saran wrap or wax paper should keep the knife away from the acidic leather, if you want to store in the sheaths. A little oil on the knife, wrap it up and put it back in the sheath.
