Hey all,
Probably a novice question and I realize its all a matter of personal preference but do you find that prototypes or Limited Edition Busse knives are in general more collectable? Or is it a matter of an individual knifes model and or the availability of that given blade that trumps proto or LE versions? I'm trying to sort potential collectors and or determine what blade will be the user is ultimately what brings this question up. Proto or LE more collectable? Proto or LE user?

Thanks in advance for you help-

I would say in general prototypes trump limited editions, but that is not always the case. Some IMHO have to be looked at on case by case basis.

A few examples .

The BJ proto had a large number released. The Bj LE was released not long after in a thinner version that was a better slicer which I personally liked better. Only time will tell which will be more valuable.

The SOB. There are as you saw only 50 prototypes that are double cut/black canvas. The LE is the exact same knife with no change in specs other than its a satin blade with your choice of handle material. Historically Le's have been limited to 3 digit #'s up to 999, not including sterile, or Hog name on blade so there will more than likely be more than 50 made.

and then you have the FBM's. The protos are killer and bullett nose, they arent as popular as the FBM LE.

Again only time will tell, but I think you will agree they have different variables.

There are also cases that lower #'s dont necessarily mean more value because there arent enough of them in peoples hand to cause a stir. Then no one ever talks about them so it doesnt create the noise some might expect., and to the contrary there are knives that are Holy grails that still demand the respect they deserve:)

So, I hope that makes it clearer;):D

I think that such is the case with the 1 of 14 Clip Point Desert NO-e's and the EU-17's.

Well put Trevor and there in lies one of the many many beauties of Busse and kin. Good luck with your choice Sig!

Absolutely! They are amazing Busse's:cool:

3 & 4 down here well if it had rotated. LOL. So 3 & 4 from right

They were .27" thick if I recall correctly which provided a wonderful platform and arguably the most comfortable of all ergo handles in an original production run...only thing close might be a custom hand shaded handle, but it wont have as classic of a style IMHO

LOL, yes indeed!

They are the only ones:cool:
