I am calling these my spearpoint R.U.K.'s (rough use knives).
The jade one has textured scales and the other has black linen micarta with a smooth, yet grippy finish.
Both knives have a hand rubbed scotch brite finish with some forge residue left over.
The jade one is a commissioned piece, the customer wanted a hard use knife that would work well in SERE/survival situations.
Hopefully it will fit his needs.
Let me know what you think!

wooow

im sure those are gonna be a hot item for you man

those look indestructable

ooo

Thanks, They are definitely designed with hard use in mind. and with the exposed tang section it gives you the option to pry with it, instead of the tip of the blade.

I like it! Simple, rugged as hell and functional (as usual). I particularly like how you carried the edge all the way aft - easier to sharpen and again MORE FUNCTIONAL. I did that on all my blades until I got so many questions about safety that I now offer it as an option. Thanks for posting.

Great work Ben! I like the way you grind them without a much of a visible main grind bevel, very functional and cool.

Thank you guys, Yeah Dan when I grind them there usually is a more visible line but I like to blend it in when I am hand sanding, I think it lends to the over all flow of the knife.
As far as lack of a plunge cut, I think it is far more functional and easier to sharpen. plus when you pay for a 5" blade you can use all 5 inches that you pay for! As long as people use proper handling techniques I don't think there should ever be any safety concerns.

They are .214" thick at the spine. 9.5" oal and 5" blade length.

I'm the proud owner of the jade handled RUK. I finally got back into town last night and was able to pick it up. Unfortunately, it's back to teaching tomorrow, and with a move coming up next month, it will be several weeks before I get a chance to get out and put it through its paces, but my initial impression is that it will handle just about anything I throw at it just fine!!

I'm very, very happy with the blade. Everything about it feels great. Very clean, nice lines. The handle, with the carved grooves, is very grippy, but doesn't bite my flesh at all. And overall, the knife just feels extremely solid. I know that is a generic statement, but some knives just have that feel...they feel tough and ready to handle just about anything, and this is one of them. It definitely has some weight in the hand too.

I also got two sheaths with it, one kydex, and one leather. Both are very nice hold the knife securely.

Overall, I'm just very, very happy with it and can't wait to beat it up next month.

For anyone out there considering one of Ben's knvies, I highly recommend doing business with him. He was very responsive tthrough email, answered all my questions, offered his input on what I was looking for, kept me posted on the entire process, delivered much sooner than anticipated, and most of all delivered a very fine product.

Thank you Ben
Collin

Thank you for the kind words Collin, I hope it serves you well. Thank you for your input, I think we came up with a design I will be doing for a long time!
