Here's a Proto-type project I've been working on.

The knife profile comes from my associate in Cali, Marcus Lin.
Like several of the other projects I've worked on with Marcus, I've had complete freedom in choosing IKBS for the pivot system, the fastener configuration and the "look" in general.
I haven't decided if I should incorporate a clip or a sheath, (something like the Spec-Ops Super Sheath) ;)

On to the knife :D

Specs:
  • Blade Etched W2
  • Pivot Captive 1/4" 416 SS pin from Alpha (GREAT PIVOT PINS !!) surrounded by IKBS
  • Liners Anodized .090 6AL4V Ti with 3/32" detent ball
  • Back Bar G10 with stainless 2-56 threaded inserts
  • Scales Carbon Fiber
  • OAL 8-1/8"
  • B. L. 3-1/2"
  • Weight 5.9 ounces
This knife is rock solid. Just a little blip on the spydy hole (fwiw, I've contacted Sal Glesser at Spyderco) or the stop pin, a flip of the wrist and the blade just flies out and locks up tighter than the proverbial drum ;)

Hope you like her ....................

David, that's a great looking folder!

I love the shapes, blade and handle. I hope you'll consider doing some "dress" or "gentleman's" versions of this one :)

the photos of it taken apart are very cool:thumbup:
I think you did a great job with this one

I REALLy like it. Love the small bowie shape. I hope to see you make some more of these! Can we get a knife in hand picture? I'd like to see how big the hole is in comparison to your thumb...sometimes bigger holes are easier to use.

I really like it, but to me it would look better with a longer blade. Not sure how that could be accomplished within the confines of the design.

Hey xaman :) Thanks a lot !

You know I'm easy ; ) What kind of specifics are you thinking about ?

That is a GREAT looking knife!!! I like it very, very much.

Thanks TKC ;)

Thanks Lorian. I did that to show some important features that weren't obvious when assembled. For instance, the (3) 2-56 flat head screws under the scales, the steel inserts in the G10 back bar, imho, an important component for long term use & abuse

Thanks :)

Give me a minute or so and I'll get a pic up for you

And you bet I'll be making more !! Many more !!

I really like it, but to me it would look better with a longer blade. Not sure how that could be accomplished within the confines of the design.

Thanks Keith !

In regards to "blade to handle length", we're in agreement
Being a proto there's a couple of features to be added and tweaked a bit ;)

I always appreciate your thoughts.

Quite interesting.:)

Thanks stabman

For a tactical folder, it does look very sheeple friendly (a good thing).

I like your take on the tactical folder. What's the pricing gonna be like when you release them?

I thought the same thing. It doesnt look overly tactical or aggressive. A def benefit if made into a gentlemans folder.

Thanks harkamus  Although I didn't do it on purpose, a people friendly look is extremely important in this day and age :grumpy:

I'm not exactly sure about final cost at the moment but it will be in the neighborhood of $385-$400 as shown.

My wife works out a spread sheet for all of my knife models now and this one will be no different. It's in the works and will include pricing for different blade steel and scale combinations.

Yes, I agree

Here are the "in hand" pics you requested. FWIW, the closed length is ~ 4-13/16" or ~ 4.812" long

This knife is beefy and very solid. Just for reference, the spydy type hole is 7/16" or ~.437 in diameter.

Thanks again guys : )

If you have anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask ;)

That's cool David. I always figured an old mold maker like you would have the right skill set to make the best folders. I can't wait to handle one of these. I'll bet it is mechanical perfection.

Looks good and the pictures showing the parts and construction are cool. I don't think i've seen a thumb stud held in place that way before.

It would be interesting to hold one.

Peter

I really like the blade profile and handle design - comfortable and practical! The size looks good too - not too small.

Personally, I would lose the Spyder hole and just go with a thumb stud. If your knife opens as easily as you say, I don't see a need for the hole. Why pay royalties for a feature that isn't really necessary? Perhaps you can offer a knife with the hole and without?

I don't see a clip. Did I miss it? Do you plan to add one? Clips are good. ;)
