Hello,

I am new to this forum, and hope some of you can answer some questions. I recently was given 2 Benchmade knives and know almost nothing about them. Heres what I do know:

The first knife says "prototype Dec 2000". After doing some searching I think it is a 800 series AFCK. The entire blade is non-serrated. It seems to be in great shape, with some tiny wear marks on the pocket clip. No box, but it does have a silk bag.

The second knife says "Mel Pardue" and "Prototype Oct 2003" on the blade. It has serration on half of the blade. After searching around I think it is Model 530S Pardue Axis. This knife seems to be in great shape. No box or silk bag.

Does anyone know what they might be worth? I coat guns for a living and might paint them in the same pattern as the flashlights show bellow. Of course, I don't want to coat them if their value will plummet or if they are worth much. Could coating them add to their value? Thank you in advance for your help.

Here is the pattern I might coat them in:

pics didnt work....sry..if u need help loading them just go to BF support and services part...they are great...

These are my opinions

The afck since it isnt absolutely mint I would say a good 150 or so. maybe a bit more since it is a prototype

The 530 maybe 100. This knife isnt as popular and it is a half serrated blade which isnt all that popular amongst knife junkies/collectors

Painting them will vastly reduce what they are worth. Their worth depends on being in Original condition and still in good shape. Painting over them would make collectors stay away, especially if you paint over the blades where it say protoype

i have had 6 or 8 BM prototypes and they usually are worth only a small premium (if that) over the std model.

if the prototype is distinctive and different from the production (ie a alloy handle 710) it might be worth a little more, i dont think ya could get $150 for any of them, they simply arent worth that kinda dollar.

of course this is considering they are LNIB, if not it would vary depending on the shape, but if its not LNIB it loses any collector value, not to mention painting them which i dont see why ya would wanna do that anyway lol.

i would say morer like $100 or maybe $120.

edited to add- i looked at the pics they didnt work before, i had a LNIB AFCK proto like is shown , LNIB, i swapped it last summer and got $100 trade value for it FWIW.

Thank you for all the help. I think I might coat them as samples and then use them everyday. I'll make sure to post pictures if I go with that option. Otherwise, I will put them up on ebay(as is) and see what happens. Let me know if ebay is a bad idea....

Why not purchase a Gold membership, and list them here?
