A while back I decided to put some of those machining skills to use and start work on a new series of knives and tools. The goal here is to take a traditional tool and upgrade it with modern fabrication methods. Is there anything wrong with a traditonal knife - hell no! - so why am I doing this? Because I can dammit, plus, I just enjoy anything that is overbuilt to the point that I don't know how I'm gonna break it with anything less than a torch, sledgehammer, and/or explosives of some kind .

The blade on this one is machined from 1" O1 round stock, milled down to 3/16" thick in the blade section, heat-treated to 60 Rc, and hollow ground with a swedged tip to set it all off. Under the guard and handle is a 2" long section which is turned down to 7/8" and threaded to 14tpi.

The guard and butt are turned from 4140. The guard is threaded to match the tang and is recessed to tighten against the shoulder on the tang (where it is turned down to 7/8"). A 4-40 torx set screw, counterbored into the guard, locks the guard in place.

The handle section is turned and threaded to 7/8" - 14tpi internally and is 6061 T6 aluminum. This section threads onto the tang, and the butt threads into the handle. The three pieces that make up the handle section are seperated by rubber O-rings which seal the hollow handle from moisture and dirt.

Hope you enjoy the look,

Nathan

Yes, very interesting. How did you get the checkering on the steel handle? Do you do that stuff too?

I like the idea.
I had a Chris Reeves in my hands a while ago.
One thing I did'nt like was the fact that the handle was round.
An oval shaped handle would have felt better, to me.
I thought about the way it could be made and came up wit this:
Make a round handle with thick walls and grind down the sides.

Just my 2C's

Send it to that knifetests guy.

Post video.

Profit?

Looks like a nice knife in any event. Did you use the Randall hollow handle survival knife as a guide/idea etc.?

Thanks,

Al
