I just finished up the first prototype of the new scales I am working on. ZT 560/561. This was made of black linen Micarta. Gotta work on how I am holding the material, it slipped when I pocketed for the lanyard hole so its not quite perfect. Gonna carry it a few days and see how I like it.
Your thoughts???

Is that solid or would you be using a liner? Is that smooth or would you put grooves in it for better grip and less likely to slip.

It is solid, it uses the factory liner. Its basicly a direct replacement for factory g10 scales. Is is machined with lots of little grooves, I'll try to get a better picture of the machining.

I like black linen micarta but I would prefer one that is radiused so that it looked like wood grain. I find micarta to be very grippy as long as it is not polished. I may like it better like you say if you had a close up picture of the machining.

For those of you that are interested in the scales, could you put a value on them. What does everyone think is fair. Keep in mind they are CNC 3d Machined, not just a flat scale.

Id try one of for $30, I just haven't found an after market scale I like better then the stock one.

A balanced selling point would be around $50-65 but i would be willing to spend more i suppose. There is just something special about micarta, i guess because it has a fabricy feeling to it. If this works out well for you, you should try one for the xm-18 too. Also do these follow the same thickness as the factory scales?

I agree the micarta does have a unique feel to it. Yes they are very similar in dimension to factory scales. +/- a few thousandths inch

You sir, might have just convinced me to hang on to my ZT0560. Unless you're going to make one for the XM-18 and/or Southard.
