Well it has taken awhile, but I am finally starting to use one of my CRKs as an EDC (small micarta Seb 21 with double lugs and S30V blade). I have been carrying it in its sheath but only using for the lightest of duties. I took it on a fishing trip last week and picked up a small scratch on the blade. Yesterday I started carrying it without its sheath. I know - not really a big deal, but it was a corner I was having a hard time turning.

Now if only I could do that with one of my Mnandis...

The beautification begins. Sebenzas look better used. There is an "in between" phase you must get through, then the gorgeous patina starts to form. Awesome choice!

My lg. 21 has been used daily since I bought it. I'm loving all the marks on the handle. Now that being said, I'm starting back doing construction tomorrow, and I'd be a liar if I said I hadn't thought of carrying something else. Pryor to this I worked in a warehouse and cardboard was the worst thing it would see. I have no fear of it holding up, but there's just that lurking voice in my head that sais "YOU'VE GOTTA BE NUTS!"
It's no big deal though, because I carry a backup/ multi tool at all times anyways.

You only go around once, enjoy your knife! You'll love every mark on it because they are yours!

Awesome Vaporstang! I remember you mentioning that you were getting ready to start using your Sebenza more often in one of my threads a while back. I think I'll always use the sheath on my DT but even that knife gets used for whatever. I just don't want the Damascus getting messed up by other stuff in my pockets like keys or my flashlight. If it gets scuffed up doing work, then so be it! Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself. Save the Mnandis for light duty, even if they can handle hard use, why bother when you have a more suited CRK right?

Having pride in using a using knife is pretty lame.

Why has it taken you time to use it?

When I was in my 20's, I didn't have a pot to piss in...yet...I used:

CRK Large and Small Sebenza
Harold "Kit" Carson Model 4 precursor
Pat Crawford Leopard
John W. Smith Liner Lock
Many Microtech knives, including autos and manuals

And more Benchmade knives that I can think about.....sometimes I would have to decide to smoke cigarettes or eat during those times, because I couldn't afford to do both...

Use the knives you want to use and keep the ones you want to keep pristine....pristine....it becomes very simple as you make the decisions.

Sorry Steve, to me this note you wrote exhibits the same pride that started the thread. If you weren't also proud, you would not have taken the time to list all your users. I don't think anyone who pauses before they commit a $400 folder to daily use is lame, it's just a normal tendency that some overcome later than others. And hey, collecting is cool to in it's way also. I am not a collector, but do you expect those folks who own 100+ knives to carry them all? It could be stamps, or firearms, or pepper shakers. People collect stuff.

Let's encourage and not belittle people in the hobby.......and yes, it is a hobby because we all know you can buy a $20 knife that will cut anything, and you don't need to join a forum to talk about it endlessly.

I tried to open up my popcorn, but my Rockstead was not sharp enough, so I had to resort to Bic pen! :D

I couldn't agree more. I'm a member on a few firearm and archery forums and BF is by far the worst bashing forum I've ever visited. I'm pretty new to knives and I usually don't post questions or comments in fear of getting flamed for using the wrong terminology. I applaud you for standing up for the good guys and making us newbies feel welcome.

In my 20's, I spent entirely too much time reading a post and immediately wondering what pissing without a pot or having to choose between eating food or smoking cigs would be like, if I owned several expensive knives. Perhaps the expensive knives contributed to the potless piss and/or food shortage?

I suppose that's what I've been doing all along; using the knives I want to use and keeping the ones I want to keep pristine....pristine. I am not sure what you having a piss pot has to do with me using or not using a knife. And I never succumbed to the use of tobacco....

Let's just say....it's your knife, enjoy it as you see fit;)

The opinions of others should only matter if you want to gain their acceptance;)

My order of preference is food first, Sebenza second and piss on the cigarettes.

Than why post about it,and not just enjoy the experience?

Much of the posting within the Mfr. s/f's is about "The Love"....the love of the manufacturer and the love between acolytes and such...it's cool...but not as cool as using the knives you want to use, and I have plenty that I don't use.

I was also reluctant to use my CRK's at first. Then, I thought to myself, self if you aren't going to use the ones you have, get a user, so I did. Now, I have 5 that I rotate and the rest are eye candy. The best thing is, the ones I use with all the snail trails, light scratches are just as appealing as the ones in the safe. Go figure!!!

I cannot speak for others. I post to share my experiences, knowledge and passion with other people. Sometimes these people matter and I want to develop some common ground with them (that is when I feel their opinions matter, because I want to share mutual acceptance as a friend). Other times, people go around trolling and spouting nonsense and I usually believe it is best to ignore them because I do not care to share anything with them. Still, other times a good debate can be fun. These are the times when I probably respect the other guys opinion the most (but I may still disagree with it).

I have opinions, and sometimes they change. Sometimes perhaps I post as if I feel that others should adopt my opinions. It is not intended, it's just my exuberance. This the point I tried to make about people should not be overly concerned with opinions of others. Pick and choose what you allow to change you;-)
