Congrats, the Basic 9 is one of my favorite blades ever.

Epic Score

Ooooh, that is one awesome score! My first was a Basic, and that was a primo blade!

Line up those ricasso's foo. Tip to tip!

I like the photo on the box. That's a fine lookin' knife! The chopper handle looks like it will work better, for a knife that's strictly used as a chopper.

Nice score.

I don't have a Basic 9. But, I do have a Battle Rat and DFLE - along with a San Mai Trailmaster.

..... I prefer my Battle Rat. The DFLE would be just a hair better chopper and the Battle Rat just a hair more nimble in the hand. For me, I find the Battle Rat to be more versatile and I prefer SR-101's edge properties.

For woods use, chopping and such, I am pretty confident the Busse Basic 9 wins over all.

I would love to have a satin 10" full height grind INFI blade with the new Regulator handle.

...... Thin a thinner 12" satin bladed version with full convex on the Regulator handle

.

Great score !! The Basic 9's are pretty hard to find and that task is likely to get harder ...;)

I am a big fan of these ... the ASM edge and light weight and good chopping ability make these a great "package" ...

So what are the dementions and specs? How do they compaire to the BWM? I kn ow the BWM is INFI but anyone have a compairson?"

Just thinking I may need to get a BWM - sort of like the basic but different :)

The B9 weighs in at 14 oz's .... the BWM at 21 oz's ... here is a pic ...

Not a good one .... had to use a flash ....

The edge grind's are different .... the chopping ability is close .... the BWM is probably infront but not by as large an amount as the weight difference would indicate .... infact they are really quite close despite this gap ... the blade heavy balance of the B9 makes it chop way above it's overall weight entitlement .... plus the comfort of the Res C helps you give it a bit of "umph" without feeling the shock/numbness to your hand .... and you can keep at it easily due to the light weight ....

Thanks Peter - what are the thickness compairsons? I had a Basic once but like an idot sold it ......And I really liked the smoth blade versions.

Nice spread there Peter. The knives are all great, but overall in portability and function I am preferring knives smaller than the Mistress series. Namely Trail Master and now Basic 9. Wouldn't turn my back on that DFLE either.

very nice. Came with nice pants, and the Box and papers. That is a great score. I am another who would love to see a Basic 10 or 11 with a taller blade overall, and slightly more room on the handle.

Pete,

Which BWM is 21 ounces?

The CG is supposed to be 3/16" (.1875") thick vs. the LE at .22" thick.

Can you provide weights for both?

I wish I could afford a satin Bushwacker..... But, I "WISH" I could buy a satin Bushwacker at the CG's price or at least VERY close to it - maybe $20 - $30 more for satin or so. I still have pretty big issues with a $250 upcharge for a simple industry standard satin finish.

For me, $365 for a CG that I REQUIRE to be satin and have to dissassemble, strip, grind, finish, etc., then rebuild to get satin or $615 to get satin is just NOT choices I can be happy with.

I still do not like coatings and don't expect to. But, stripping these CG's all the time is just becoming a hassle. :(

Over $600 for a chopping tool is just hard for me to justify. Nice for those who can afford it I guess.
$365 for a knife that I feel compelled to do so much work to is not so great of a "kit" knife bargain for me either. :(

The B9 is .25 and the BWM CG is .187 .... the BWM CG also has quite a forward blade heavy balance tho' and is a good chopper for it's weight.

I would definately get one before they come down off the site ....

I have only used mine with a factory edge ... I intend to strip it and do a zero convex edge .... carefully tho so I dont lose any spine thickness ... probably just using a finishing belt to remove the grind marks I expect to see under the paint .... but once done I expect it to hang in there with it's heavier brother the BWM LE .... which would widen the gap a bit on the B9 .... but not by a lot. The B9 can do all the chopping you would need in a field knife and the ASM edge makes field sharpening using a ceramic rod very easy. You would need quite a while longer to do a BWM with a leather strop ... mainly because you only need to sharpen one side of the B9 blade to bring it back ... although time is not the issue for me .... leather strops with compound on them don't work so well in the wet or when wet they take an age to dry out ... or wet and dry paper and a mouse mat on a small tin can also suffer when wet .... whereas the ceramic hone for the B9 is weatherproof.

Got to say for a knife for my belt kit I use the B9 all the time now .... it's found it's home! :D

Yes I like the B9 for belt carry .... as said I use it all the time now on my webbing kit .... I often have the NMFBM in my Bergan tho' .... I can work a lot quicker with that if need be.
