My 6yr old daughter just shot her first open class Field Air Rifle Match on Saturday. She was the youngest shooter in the clubs history.Since she is a year younger than Sub-junior, she even had to go out a month before and shot a qualifier to prove that she belonged on the field with the "big boys". Unfortunatly there were not enough junior or Sub-junior shooters to warrent their own class so all classes shot together. This meant that she was shooting against a bunch of 30-60 year old experts.
For those not aware. Field target is a hunting simulation. The targets are full scale steel simulations of small game such as rabbits, squrrils, frogs, mice, birds and the like. These can be placed from 20-50yrds away. To knock the target down you much strike it in the kill zone which can vary from 1" to .25". So some of her shoots were at .25" targets at 50 yards. A strike on the target does nothing, it must be in the KZ to fall.
Well out of 38 targets she only out and out missed two and knocked down a total of five. Pretty darn good for a 6 year old. She was third to last, beating out a 13year old and a adult.
For her trouble she is getting a brand new Bushnell 6-18X50AO scope to replace her old tasco 3-9X32.
Here is a photo of her proudly holding her rifle. Her stock is custom milled billet alum with G10, Titanium and Carbon Fiber. Still needs to be anodized.
