I am curious about the variety of prybabyies out there. Peter siad there are lots of variations and I am curious to know what people have and what people find useful. I am planning on buying a few of these as gifts to my family (our last name is Atwood, no relation that I am awre of) and the standard models look cool enough but I am curious if I should look for specific models. What advantage do the scalloped "tactical" edges offer? What finish variations are out there and do they offer advantages or just look prety?

Thanks
Sam

I've seen full size ones and little eensy-teensy ones. Never seen any complaints and I doubt you could go wrong with anything that you order from him! Make sure you play up the family relationship. Could be good for a 10% discount! :D

I have one of the larger sizes. It is 5 and 3/8 inches long, has a red G10 slab on one side, and a red (fine) DMT diamond hone on the other side. The larger size is easier to get your hands around and get some leverage. The tradeoff is that it is not as easy to carry.

To carry the Large PryBaby I had a G2 sheath for my Tac AR done with a spot to hold the PryBaby. My little PryBaby I keep on my key chain.

Okay, got to ask "prybaby"?

They are the work of Peter Atwood, a knifemaker based in MA. Think of them as a very inventive "take" on the classic prybar with state of the art metals like Ti or S30V, creatively coated and burnished, and made to fit the keychain or Fatboy of the typical Usual Suspect type of guy.

Check out some of them here:

He's a great guy to deal with, and this is just the kind of neat non wallet bustin' little gadget that you don't really *need* but have to *have*:)

Thanks for the very kind words guys. :) Even more new variations are in the works.... ;)

To answer your question Sam, most of the finishes and treatments are more decorative than functional but the basic tools are surprisingly versatile all by themselves. Sometimes simple is all you really need. Everything else is just icing on the cake. :D

Some of these above including the two satin ones with the scuffs are from my personal collection. I'm really partial to the piece with the inlaid opals and the one with the bluish bubbles. The one with the tabs is a spanner wrench that fits the pivot of Strider folding knives. And check out the cool little keychain sheath that was made by the talented Mr. Lifter! :) Also shown are a couple of my S30v credit card knives.

If they are the two on the bottom of the image, I'm liking those a lot. Best thing is, no one would have any idea what they are just by looking at them. I'd order one from you right now, but I'm trying to pay down my rather warm credit card at the moment. All hands to the cash pumps! Hopefully, in a couple of months, I will be in a better position to place an order with you.

Thanks Craig! :)

The CC knives are pretty fun. They are 3/32" S30v which is the thinnest I could get. I do a regular V grind on these instead of the usual chisel grind that you see on CC knives and that makes it a lot easier for the user to sharpen. The lanyard helps to pull it out of your wallet while the small bevel ground into the lower righthand corner provides a "shoehorn" effect allowing for easy insertion into the CC slot. The knife is slightly smaller than a normal card so it is less likely to tear up your wallet when removing and putting it back in. The holes were intentionally made smaller than a person's fingers so that the piece cannot be mistaken for brass knuckles but at the same time they lighten the piece and provide a lot of positive grip areas.

I love that setup! I need something like that. I've thought about that ever since I first saw it. (Blade West I think it was)
