What are your experiences with the PS2. I´m thinking of getting one after Christmas. I´m very fond of the DVD combined with a gameconsole idea. Especially now when the price is getting lower over here. Any of you out there with PS2:s had any problems with it?

Thanks,
Colinz

I have had my PS/2 since March and am very happy with it. I do not use it as a DVD player as I have a Tag Mclaren DVD to do that.

The games are very good and there are more PS/2 specific games comming out all the time. I have a 3 year old son and the ability to buy old Playstation 1 game for $10ish keeps both of us happy.

If you are into racing car games I recommend Formula 1 2001 and Le Mans - both great games.

Regards,

Ed

Love mine. Use the DVD player all the time. A relatively inexpensive hard drive should be coming out soon.

I am a big fan of extension cables for the controllers. I would recommend them. Nothing like sitting back on your couch as opposed to crouching in front of the TV.

Wish it had four controller ports instead of 2, but I got a multitap and all is groovy, though I am $30 poorer.

Got Gauntlet: Dark Legacy -- great multipleyer game as you are all on the same screen (no split screens).

Thanks for the suggestions, Ed. My wife loves driving games and I got a wheel on sale at Walmart for $20 and have yet to use it! Been meaning to rent Spy Hunter, GTA III, and Gran Turismo A Spec.

Re: DVD -- Be careful if you get a remote. I have a good one but won't fit with the multitap. If you aren't going to use a multitap, you should be groovy. And if you aren't going to use a multitap, I have a remote you can buy :) :D

Re: remote: I just use my controller with extenstion cable! Hoopy!

Maybe soon they will drop the price to compete better with the Xbox and Gamecube both coming out this week.

Played Rogue Leader on the Gamecube last night at Target. WOW. Hope my wife gets me one of those for my birthday...

Man I've had a PS/2 for many year, had a few actualy.
There hard to work on since IBM messed with them so much,
and they are mostly only able to run Win 3.1, but Some can run
Win95......Sorry I've just been waiting to make this "joke". :)

Yah, I know he weren't talking about IBMs old Personal System II (PS/2) :)

Yeah, and I have many PS/2 mice as well. :D

Had a PS/2 model 90 as the first machine I ever ran Windows 95 on. Could only run in 16 colours. What a POS...

I have an older (166 mhz) Stinkpad that is pretty good as Stinkpads go. Much better than my Compaq 133 LTE 5300. :barf:

Anyone know any good flight/space shooter games for the PS2? Was unimpressed with SW: Star Fighter (hate most Ep 1 stuff -- wish Rogue Leader were available for the PS2). Could be improved if you could do a mission that involved strafing Gungans...

Just got MGS2 today. Its worth buying one just to play this game.

MGS2 is out? Bastid!
I'm yet to play a great game on mine...GT3 sux dog's balls, if you've done GT2 you've already played this game. I'm really waiting for Ace Combat 4, MGS2, S Filter 3 etc but got bored enough to by Red Faction which is OK. That's been my biggest gripe...the games have taken forever to be released.
As a DVD player...it works. :D

Buy it! Good possibilities in the future for games and add on's. It plays dvd's, games, and any PSX game, plus it can sharpen the visual quality of the older games.

Thanks for the info/input. Sounds good. Now I´ll rent one from my local videostore and try it out myself before I make a final decision.

Thanks again for the help.

Good plan. Always good to try before you buy.

At launch, their games were lacking, but they have come way up to speed.

I'm surprised. I played the snot out of GT, but could never ever get into GT2. I hated it with a passion. They really destroyed the tuning aspect to the game.

Then when I got GT3...I regained the passion! I *LOVE* GT3. Especially when running Formula 1 cars against LeMan's cars. Where else would you get to do that?? Oh, and the Rally racing! That's so awesome! I get to do things with a Subaru WRX that I wouldn't dare do with my real life WRX. Favorite cars in GT3 include the Subaru LM Race Car, C5 Corvette, Pagani C12 Zonda, and Suzuki Escudo.

Just got MGS2, but haven't played it yet.

I love my PS2. :)

Hey Skyline, that's the thing...IMO GT2 = GT3...you were lucky enough to skip 2...I mean, if you've played em all then in the end you must've gone round "Deep Forest", "Grand Valley East", "R11" etc about five hundered times.

Yeah, but Rallying really wasn't done right in GT2. I tried it and it wasn't even close to realistic. GT3 really got that right. And as I mentioned, GT3 has better tuning, cars, graphics.

I guess if you play anything enough, you do get sick of it. ;)

Typical.

I know that there was a videostore that had PS2:s for rent. Now I can´t find it. It´s sooo like me. Well I told my girlfriend about this thread and she thinks it sounds good so now she wants to pay a part for it too, just because it has a DVD :D

BTW does anyone here know if the PS2 can be made to function with DVD´s from all around the world (USA, Europe, Asia)?

Now, if I only could find that videostore...

/Colinz

Most Blockbusters have them to rent.

I don't know if it handles DVDs from other regions.

I was really impressed with the quality of DVDs. It was one of those things that I knew would be better, but wasn't sure how much noticeably better it would be. My wife laughs at me because I throw the 13th Warrior in there so often...

Anyone needs a PS2 DVD remote, email me.

The PS/2 as supplied by Sony will only play the region where it was purchased (1 for USA, 2 for Europe). You can purchased multi-region versions if you do a search on the web (I know some UK suppliers if anybody is interested).

Ed

I´m interested in a multi-region PS2. Please email me or post information here. The DVD:s in this country is too pricey. It´s much cheaper to buy US DVD:s. Also some DVD:s aren´t released here (Manga and such).

Thanks,

/Colinz
