This one sat in a drawer for awhile, then I sent it off to Tim Olt for a Bocote Wood handle. Next, it went out to Oklahoma, for Larry Parson's to make a cross draw pancake sheath.
Got it back yesterday, and it's ready to be a daily carry knife. This weekend, it's heading off for a 4 day camping trip, where it will be the main blade. I have several of these Mule Team blades now, and think very highly of them as users.

I would guess the Mule Team knives have created a need for a lot of handles and sheaths. ;)

Looks nice. Which blade steel of your mules do you prefer?

I have a s110v and a CTS-XHP and I'm curious what steels others prefer.

CPM M4 is by far my #1, but also like the K390. Unfortunately, none of the rest interest me.
... I'd buy a family limit of M2's (wishful thinking).

Very handsome package; congratulations and thanks for letting us see your new set-up!

Those are good ones but there are others of interest. I can't even remember all of the various ones off the top of my head but 52100 would be interesting and also XHP and S110V. I have several different ones and so far the XHP is the one that I use the most. I think there is plenty of merit to the PSF27 also.

You're right, 52100 does sound interesting enough to try. I wasn't aware there was a mule in that alloy, I've never seen one come up for sale.

It's my understanding psf27 is Carpenters' spray version of D2, kinda in-between AISI D2 and CPM D2 in blade quality. I own, and have used several D2 bladed knives, and none of them are close to cpm m4, hense my non-interest.

I've used s110v and many other stainless class steels (aus8, 154cm, s30v, etc) tho not cts-xhp. My experience with them is not good. It seems when the chromium levels go over a certain point, I have much trouble with nicks and chips, some worse than others. I considered trying m390 and the carpenter equivalent, but after reading of all the broken tips from drops, I dismissed it.

I have a long story about how I've determined what blade steels are appropriate for my use, maybe someday I'll put those thoughts together and post it.

Again, thanks for the 52100 recommedation, it has been on my radar, just didn't know there was a mule version. I'll keep an eye out for one.

Actually version 1 of the mule series was 52100 if I remember correctly, it's the only version I've ever had the pleasure to work with much less own. A great all around steel, held a great edge and never chipped or rolled. In a weak moment I traded it away for something or other that was on my radar at the time, and I truly wish I had that one back. But alas, live and learn I guess. To all who are curious, I'd definitely suggest to give it a go, if you're planning on using it as a hunter or general use camp knife, I couldn't recommend it more.

Thanks, that reinforces my interest in 52100.

I know what you mean about trading things off in a weak moment.
- Like my winchester model 70A 30-06, 1911 nickle plated colt combat commander, and '67 camaro SS.

The original MT01 in 52100 is well worth seeking out.

So how did the mule fair during the camping trip? How about since then? I've heard a lot of questions about this steel.
