I'd say, just don't get the chest-mounted pack...

You might get some odd looks walking into crowded public areas with a pack strapped to your chest, but hell, while you're at it, add some black gloves and a balaclava.

I was thinking more for survival gear

I could see the chest pack for skiing or skating I guess. Certainly not my style-- I have too much hanging off the front anyway. I guess the chest pack would have a nice shelf to sit on
