Strider PT or Chris Reeves small Sebenza.
Which of these two great folders would you prefer and why?

Thanks

Sebenza is much more pocketable, almost 1/3 of the PT sticks out of your pocket, other than that you can't go wrong with either.

Mini Sebenza.
A downside for me on all the Strider designs is that there is only G10 on 1 side of the knife, after a lot of use the pivot will wear out and you get blade play, if it had a secondary liner like ZT's I would have kept all my SNG's.

Quality-wise I'll choose the Sebenza as too large a percentage of Striders seems to have quality issues. Yes, I know, you can always send 'em back for repair, but you'll still be paying the shipping costs. And I doubt if knives of that price range should have that much quality issues. And shipping costs from Europe to the US are pretty insane.

PT is too small imo.

For a small pocket folder just get the sebenza. If we were talking about a full sized knife e.g. the large sebbie or umnuum vs the sng or smf then strider for sure.

I think striders still mop up benchmade/spyderco in terms of f&f. yes sebbies are better but strider is good.

i held a PT in a store before and liked it, i had the same dilemma that you did. but i hunted on BFC and found a good deal on a used small sebenza, and if i had to choose i would get the sebenza. but that is my opinion, i say buy what you want. :D

I agree plus I had a nightmare trying to get a PT fixed that arrived messed up. The Small Sebenza is a personal favorite of mine. Just can't be beat IMO.

the sebenza carries better and has more usable edge.

i would say ergonomics go to the pt, i think striders feel great in hand.

i like them both for different reasons, but generally i prefer to carry a sebenza vs a pt or sng (or smf).

Thanks guys. I have a full size Hinderer XM18 and am in need of a smaller folder as well. I want something which is hearty and durable. I could kick myself because I sold a small Sebenza a while back. But before getting another I wanted to hear feedback on the Strider.

Thanks again

why not just get a 3" 18 or a small galyean lahar if you can spend up to it? both are better options imo.

Id go with the seb. It would compliment your xm18 better imo. The seb is a great slicer, while the xm18 is not. Why go for another chunky folder that isnt the best slicer?

I like Striders but in this case I would get the Small Sebenza. The PT is just a little too small and with the Strider design you're already getting less cutting edge than is normal for the size.

You nailed it Thalestin. Couldn't quite put my finger on it until you so eloquently stated it. I feel the small Sebenza is just about the perfect "big" or "working" gentlemans folder. It is thin and sleek, but carries a big punch.

I like both. Its a tough call for some but the way I see it its like this.

The PT has some features the Sebbie doesn't. One being the lock stabalizer, the other being the choil. Overall I like the PT design better but and here is the kicker, the Sebenza is a far more consistent build quality and just the better knife. With that said, if you can insure that the PT you get is an exemplary one and not one sub par I think you can be quite happy with it even over the Sebbie. The problem is from my point of view that it appears based on the last three new ones I've had sent to me for work that something has changed within the company because in my humble opinion the quality control has gone down hill over at Strider.

Some of the feedback I've received from end liner users and customers on their newly purchased Strider knives and their warranty service has been less than high praise and quite frankly the knives were not up with the price point for fit and finish, with things like off center blades, points sticking up and sharp corners even beyond what I was used to seeing. I've also heard of two month turn around for warranty calls and in one case they didn't even catch the fact that the blade didn't close far enough to conceal the point down in the folder. The point was sticking up so bad it put a paper cut on my finger and could have easily cut into a pocket on the way out of the pocket. I'm almost inclined to recommend you find an older PT model on the used market from an individual here or buy one from a reputable dealer like Tad Gear that has some knowledge of what they sell so they can assure you of the quality and fit and finish of the product before you buy.

It is my hope that the few I've seen are not typical of what is going on over at Strider and just some fluke or something but at this point I have to wonder because honestly the three CC models I've seen so far in 2010 have not impressed me.

:)

I think the xm18 is a great folder too, just a bigger tank for the hard work stuff:). Together with the seb, you can tackle anything well

my vote goes to Sebenza , I sold my striders but I will keep my Sebenzas.
btw, PT doesn't have a pocket clip
