I am publicy apologizing to anyone who was offended by my "shameless" picture posting. It was not my intent to upset anyone, and until last nite when Tim complained and the thread disappeared, I was unaware that I had ever bothered anyone with this, except for Tim, and no one ever knows if he is serious or not. I will say in my defense that I LOVE knife pictures....my knives as well as everyone elses..and when a picture of Tim Hermans knife, or Darrells, or Jerrys or anyones elses is included I look at the post twice as much. When I get the Knife publications, of which I subscribe to all of them....all I do is look at the pictures... maybe read an article the 2nd or 3rd time thru looking at the pictures. Again, maybe I am a little compulsive (!!!!!) but I was unaware that it bothered anyone (except for sam who gets bothered by everything) until last nite. I apologize and will use considerable self restraint in the future, sincerely, tom mayo.

UPDATED and REVISED

Tom, you don't owe anyone an appology in my book! I agree with you 100%. I like seeing pictures of folks knives, especially ones posted by the maker. If you have some pictures of your knives, I'd love to see them if you can send them via email.Take care!! Michael

Richard.....huh?

Sorry Tom, couldn't help myself...I never minded seeing your knives, sweet looking, but I guess posting them all the time got a little too much and there was Extra Mayo all the time, me? I just looked at it and kept reading so it didn't really bother me much.
But like Richard said, lighten up and head out to the Chat on mIRC, they are a bunch of rowdy boys and one girl out there most nights!!

Hey Tom

tom,
No apology needed this direction. I tend to go back and look at the pictures myself. something of a motivational thing I guess.
I tend to enjoy the tom & jerry thing as well. Catch you at whine & cheese, if I can get a password.

Tom

No appology necessary here either. You give the web site a sense of community and it's nice to know that even the great makers can drill a crooked hole once in a while and still be secure enough to post it.

Having said that, I understand we are guests here - non-paying guests - so I guess its right to listen to the boss. But I can't help but be reminded of "Cool Hand Luke"

Tom,

c'mon lighten up, sheeesh! come to whine&cheese and do me! call me names, cuss me out. you can get things off your chest there and nobody gets all bent outta shape.

do join us on irc chat and in w&c and have some fun.

Of any forum, the shop talk forum should be the one where pics are posted in a plethoric amount and quite often at that. Also, what is wron with talking shop in the shop talk forum these days? I can understand where you moderators/administrators are comming from and I respect what you are trying to do. However, moving all of the "fun" to the Whine and Cheese forum will turn bladeforums into an electronic encyclopedia instead of a discussion forum, complete with its own no-holds barred red light district where anything goes. O.k., so I am using a hyperbole here, but you get my point
smile.gif

And for those who are wondering why I used the words plethoric and hyperbole, you will have to do a search for the Tom and Jerry threads, wherever they were moved to, in order to understand how Tom and Jerry have worked dilligently to improve the quality of our english and the skill in which we use it.

Tom, I think most of us love seeing your knives. Wonderful stuff.

I did make a complaint awhile back about people posting pics, but the point I was trying to make then is that I would like to see more pics posted as links. Some threads have so many pics in them that it takes forever to load the thread. And if it is a long thread full of pics, I tend not to follow it 'cause it just gets harder and harder to load and eats up my time.

I love the pics (and I've posted a bunch of them myself) but I usually only post them as links to keep the thread running quickly.

I don't know if others are experiencing the same problem as I am but I have a 56K modem but I only get about half that through my connection.

Anyway, keep 'em coming Tom but if you and others could post a few more links, I would really appreciate it. Those folders you are making are beautiful and we should all be seein' 'em.

for me, i have no problem with big sites, or a lot pics... at 64 kb/sec with my adsl connection i have no problem with large sites/threads/pics or whatever, but probably not all members have a fast connection.

also i'm the same as tom, first i look at the pictures, maybe read the article later. i'm not offended or bothered by toms picture posting. but thats only me.
hey tom, come over to my forum, you can post as many pics as you want

I don't think this was handled in a manner that serves the interests of the forum well. A private email to Tom would have been an appropriate first step. A posting of what is and what is not what the administrators and/or moderators want to see would have been a useful second step. A locked thread would have been a useful third step. And a deleted thread would have usefully been an action of absolutely last resort. Some pretty inflamatory and mean spirited threads have not received steps 1, 2, 3 or last. How this one deserved trashing is hard to understand and pretty disappointing.

My thoughts.

Whats the big problem. If Tom wants to post a picture of a knife with an out of line hole he did it on purpose, right??? If I post a picture of my first knife on anouther thread whats the problem.(it is ugly) If a newbie is proud enough of his first, second or third knife to post a picture power to him and congradulations.
I think that anyone posting a picture is setting themselves up for either admiration or as a target of good natured jest. Newbies will get congradulations and words of encouragment from even Tom and Jerry or nothing at all from them because they are experianced enough to know when to keep there mouths shut.
I dont think that this forum needs to be edited into extinction but for the brused feelings of a few thin skined forumites.
I spend way to much time on this forum as it is now, if I am forced to go to yet anouther category with a special password I might as well go to anouther much lighter open public forem elswere.
Tom!!! Keep posting the pictures here!!!!

Well.....................

Im sorry some disagree.
And for those who dont ok....

Like I said IF you want to post a pic once in a while OK. Hell I like um to. But think about what the people who buy these knives think of YOU. Maybe we all should send spark a request for a forum where custom Knifemakers can post pics.
There is a growing concern about Knifemakers HYPING and ADVERTISEING on the forums from some folks every chance they get in every thread they can. DOES that mean anything to you?

The post belonged in W&C . I think there has only been one or two locked threads here.
concideration for 123 has never been a issue.

I dont want ST to be dull and boring. I just want a little constraint here alright.

So this was my decission.

GESAUUUUAAAAA Use your head.

Every time any maker big or small, you included posts to a topic, they put their signature on the bottom of it, is not that hype, even without a picture??? The name is recognized and there is usually a hyperlink to a web sight.
Most people should be able to sort thru the BS and decide what they want to read themselves without going from category to category.
