I sent a knife (SOG Vision) to Ron and the fine folks at SOG recently because I had a some vertical play in the blade.

At first I was a little disappointed when Ron told me they gave it a good once over and found nothing really wrong with it.

Ron and Steve assured me that they were giving the knife a good tune up and that they would 2nd Day Air it to me so that I would have it before I left for vacation.

Well, I got the knife today as promised and the lock-up is as tight as any knife I own and smooth as butter.

I just wanted to thank Ron & SOG as well as compliment them on their great customer service. I don't know what you guys did to my Vision but now it's perfect :D

COLOR me happy.

Hi Cpirtle,

Thanks for your kind comments. I'm sorry you were in a position to need our warranty services, but we do have some great staff here assisting to our customers. Steve (in Consumer Services) and Vinny (our techie guru who repaired your knife) are top-notch.

If we can ever be of service again, let me know.

Take care.

I've been using my Night Vision for about a month now and it's as solid as ever. I'm just curious what was wrong with it that was causing the blade play. Ron, can you describe what the problem was?

I am a picky person by nature, the blade had a little vertical play in it so I sent it back. When I say little I mean a little, it was not sloppy by any means. But like I said, I'm anal like that.

(Maybe this is the time to ask Spark for a little 'smilie' that represents an anus :D)

What they did was just take it apart and make sure everything was to spec's. they re-assembled it and in the process decided to replace 2 of the screws which did not look right.

I know they did not replace any parts other than the 2 screws so I'm thinking they just gave it a good once over and made sure everything was assembled properly.

Whatever they did fixed it and I'm willing to accept that :)

Hi Jason,

I don't know the history of Cpirtle's knife, but at some point, it had likely been disassembled. My guess is that it was not re-assembed correctly.

The amount of play was very minimal and easily able to be corrected.

I personally did not see the knife (I was on vacation, remember? :) ), but did talk with those who did the servicing.

Like with all knives, we did a complete servicing of the knife while it was here, including touching up the edge. It should be "razor sharp!" Vinny does most of the knife sharpening here. He is amazing!
