I've searched but haven't found all that much on the PUK.Can anybody compare it to the Spyderco Street Beat and RAT RC-3 in regards to general use and use as a CCW?

Thanks in advance>

Well I`ve got one I carry alot. But can`t compare it to other knives you mentioned as I do not own any of them. I think its a great little knife and serves my needs well.

i have never been a big fan of emerson fixed blades(custom or production), better stuff around in a FB imho, that said the pUK is "ok" i suppose, i had one a few yrs ago and swapped it off for something or another, but they are ok.

never had a street beat or RAT so cant compare it to them, but imho a CRKT companion, in a custom sheath, is a better FB for SD and utility and costs less than $50, also prefer the MOD razorback, spyderco perrin, spyderco temperance & lum tanto, and anything by bud nealy.

The PUK is better suited to self-defense while the RAT iRC-3 is better for field/survival use. From a CCW point of view, I like the PUK a lot, but the sheath is a bit tighter than I prefer. As for the price, its retail is too high like all Emersons. However, you can find the PUK for $150~$160 which is a fair price IMHO. The blade is great for cutting flesh (ah, I speak from experience), but not as good for utility chores.

What makes it not so good for edc if your going to carry a f.b.? I've seen'em and handled one and thought it would be ok for either. keepem sharp

The edge on the PUK is extremely sharp, but also very thin; it will chip. The 154CM is nice for a CCW material as it does not easily stain from sweat.

The 1095 carbon steel and edge on the RC-3 lends itself to more utility and easier edge sharpening in the field. The coated blade is durable and will not stain as long as they user does their part (i.e., take extra care and oil the blade).

I got my P.U.K. a while back and i have put it thru hell. wood, branches, weeds, plastic, drywall, tarps, canvas, food, rugs, pierced tin cans etc. Holds an edge great, is tough, has never chipped, easy to sharpen and the sheath retention is bomber. I've carried it in the woods and used it extensively for bushcraft.

I love emerson knives nad i own three, but i love fred perrins designs and so does mr emerson as evidenced by the la griffe. If you want a good ccw then go for the street beat. i am lucky enough to own a knife made by fred himself and it truly amazes me everytime i take it into my hand. with a design by fred and production by spyderco i woul strongly recomend you go that route.
