Fantastic set, Lee. You're rollin' in INFI these days. Must be why you're selling your balis. I, on the other hand, am tryna sell my INFI, and keeping my balis. Hopefully I'll have a son some day, and he's DEFINITELY gonna get a nice bali AND a nice Busse or two.
Kimber, Colt or Springfield... I can't decide... nice Kimber! Kimber and Colt seem to be popular .45's around these parts.
Stay away from the newer Kimbers. They seem to be using steel with a higher carbon content in their barrels over the past couple years and this has lead to big rust issues. I sold my SS Pro TLE/RLII soon after I got it because I started to develop rust. I basically had to keep the thing wet or it would start to rust.
The Springers are probably the best quality 1911's you can get for the cash. If you want a good base to add on to, go with a Springfield Government. The higher-end models can be pricey.
some say Colt is the best-feeling 1911 out there. I won't disagree. If you're a purist, then you already know to get yourself a colt, but they do tend to be a bit pricey for what you get.
If you're willing to stray a bit, the Smith & Wesson 1911 PD is a great gun made from a lightweight alloy. Shoots well, feels great in the hand, and you can find it for around 700$ new. Shoot it awhile, and when you want a new finish, send it away for a melonite job and you'll have a very reliable carry gun that will last a long time.
I know many people say Wilson mags are the best in the market. I say Wilson has gotten lucky very often. Find a good mag manufacturer that uses JMB's design (including the controlled-feed principal) and go with them for carry. You may get lucky with your Wilsons, and no doubt others will chime in and say they are the best thing since oxygen, but JMB designed this gun VERY meticulously--specifically the physics of controlled feeding--and Wilson has eschewed that design. I had nothing but problems with 47D's in my Kimber even after having a competent gunsmith look at it/them.
Go with Checkmate Industries if you can find a dealer.
Wheeeeew....sorry about the hijack, Lee.
Once again, great-looking set...ESPECIALLY for the woods.
